Till Rávdná Turi Henriksen Ántte – Rávndnái Förord Den första kurs jag läste i mitt forskarutbildningsprogram hette Long and winding road – en lång och slingrig väg. Arbetet med avhandlingen har varit både lång och slingrig, lärorik och samtidigt följt mig under en period i mitt liv där också familjen växt och föräldrarollen varit viktig. Det är inte alltid dessa olika roller är lika lätta att förena. När jag ser tillbaka är det i tacksamhet för alla de gånger det väntade något annat än det förutsedda bakom nästa sväng och alla de gånger som vägen bar mig dit jag inte visste att jag ville gå. Tack för alla uppmuntrande ord som fick mig att fortsätta och för allt jag lärt under tiden. Tack till alla de vänner som aktivt försökt att samtala med mig också när jag varit innesluten i min egen bubbla. Vänskap som håller genom en doktorsgrad håller livet ut. Sivdnidit är ett nordsamiskt verb som kan översättas både med att skapa och med att (väl)signa. Denna praxis återfinns över hela Sápmi, och utförs i många olika situationer. Sivdnidit är inte knuten till kön, ålder eller specifika egenskaper hos den som utför utan är öppen för alla. Oftast utförs denna praxis genom att en tyst tänker eller uttalar några ord. Ibland ingår också små ritualer, som att korsa sig själv, eller någon/något, eller andra handlingar i samband med de ord utövaren tänker eller uttalar. Sivdnidit är en praxis som hör till vardagen. Den kan vara ett sätt att be aftonbön, bön före och efter maten, när man ska ge sig ut på resa eller i kommunikation med landskapet och dess skapelser. Ofta är sivdnidit knutet till treenigheten eller den kristna Guden men inte alltid. Sivdnidit är ett sätt att praktisera ödmjukhet och tacksamhet, samtidigt som man påminner sig själv om eget ansvar och ett liv i fördragsamhet med andra. För att analysera denna praxis och studera kontexten till sivdnidit har textmaterial producerat under det senaste århundradet i Sápmi använts. Oassi dáin teavsttain eai leat ovdal guorahallojuvvon dutkamiid olis. Summary Sivdnidit is a religious practice. Sivdnidit is a Northern Sámi word which could be translated both as to create and to bless. This practice is found all over Sápmi, and it is practiced in different situations. Sivdnidit is not connected to gender, age or specific capabilities of a person - it is open to anyone. Usually it is performed by thinking or saying some words out loud. Sometimes it is associated with small rituals like crossing oneself, or someone/something, or other small acts in connection to the words thought or said. Sivdnidit is part of everyday life. It can be a way to say one’s prayers in the evening, before or after a meal, when going travelling or in communication with the landscape and other beings. Sivdnidit is often related to the Holy trinity or to the Christian God, but not always. Sivdnidit is a way to practice humbleness and gratefulness while at the same time reminding oneself of one’s own responsibilities and getting along with others in life. To analyse this practice and study the context to sivdnidit texts produced in the Sámi society over the last century has been used.     Journalism Studies for the Indigenous Sámi: From preparatory courses to worldwide Indigenous Master’s Studies Torkel Rasmussen Abstract Journalism studies for the Indigenous Sámi people began with one year of preparatory studies at Sámi University College in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino Norway in 1992. In 2000, Sámi University College launched a pilot project for a separate Sámi Journalism course. This course developed into a permanent Bachelor’s program in the years to follow. Sámi language is the primary language of instruction in this program, and students are trained to function as journalists in Sámi society with special skills to work in Sámi media and with Sámi language as their working language. In January 2015, Sámi University College launched a new Master’s program, the Master of Sámi Journalism from an Indigenous Perspective program. The Candidate and Bachelor’s programs were developed to meet the needs of professional journalists in a growing Sámi media field prioritizing Sámi language production, and the Master’s program aims to train experts with Indigenous media expertise for leadership positions in Sámi and other Indigenous media and academic institutions. Keywords: Sámi media, media education, journalism studies, Indigenous education, language revitalization Introduction The main subject of this article is the establishment and development of journalism education for Sámis. I will address; 1) the history of Sámi Journalism Studies at Sámi University College, 2) how the program developed from preparatory studies to encourage Sámi students to start studying journalism in Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish colleges, 3) how the Sámi University College established a Bachelor’s Program of Sámi Journalism and 4) established an international Master’s program of Indigenous Journalism named “Master in Sámi Journalism from an Indigenous Perspective” in 2015.

    AN ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION OF Amanda Sophie Green for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Anthropology presented on June 9, 2016. Title: Tastes of Sovereignty: An Ethnography of Sámi Food Movements in Arctic Sweden. Abstract approved: _____________________________________________________ Joan E. Gross In this dissertation, I examine the process of building a Sámi food movement in northern Sweden. Using 15 months of ethnographic research that included observation of food events (n=100) and semi-structured interviews with food producers and activists (n=47), I describe how Sámi individuals are incorporating global food activism frameworks into their efforts to maintain Sámi cultural and livelihood practices. Two frameworks have become salient to Sámi efforts: food sovereignty and rural food development. I find that on the one hand food sovereignty provides a discourse that enables Sámi activists to address their concerns with land access and climate change, which threaten their food production. On the other hand, the protection and development of their heritage foods, through programs like Slow Food and other third party certifications, enable them to connect with consumers and to address their concern for the cooptation of Sámi knowledge, which equally threatens their ability to make a living selling Sámi foods and culinary knowledge. I demonstrate that new discourses and spaces become available – nutrition science discourses and national food conferences for example – which Sámi activists accustomize for their own ends. This dissertation is one of the first to address how indigenous sovereignty movements and food movements are together enabling indigenous peoples to work towards sovereignty in new discourses and spaces.

Fagleg analysegruppe for samisk statistikk har eksistert i ni år. På desse åra har det vore få utskiftingar av medlemmer. Gruppa er formelt sett eit offentleg utval, og det er no gjort nye utnemningar til utvalet. Av oss fem som i dag er med i analysegruppa, går fire ut. Difor har vi i år funne det naturleg å presentere ein artikkel som handlar om dei røynslene som både artikkelskrivarane våre og vi i analysegruppa gjennom arbeidet vårt har gjort med det eksisterande datagrunnlaget for samisk statistikk. Artikkelen om dette er skriven av Jon Todal. Sidan det no blir store utskiftingar i analysegruppa, vil vi takke dei som i alle år har hjelpt oss utan å vera oppnemnde medlemmer av gruppa.

This module examines the various ways in which indigenous peoples seek to express their identity through media, literary works, education, family and recreation and how this process developed over time in Greenland and Northern Europe. The objective is to show how living conditions, lifestyle, changes in population, and national policies have influenced traditional livelihood.
