Abstract: Forty-sevenDarevskiaarmeniaca specimenscollectedfrom2differentlocalitiesinArdahanwereexaminedintermsof pholidosischaracters,morphometricmeasurementsandcolour-patternfeatures.The2populationsweredifferentiatedfromone anotherintermsofthenumberofsupraciliarplates(left-right)(SCPa-SCPb),supralabialplates(left-right)(SRLa-SRLb)and transversalseriesofventralplates(TVP)accordingtotheresultsoftheMann-WhitneyUtest.Anindependentt-testbasedon morphometricmeasurementsrevealedsignificantdifferencesintermsoftheheadindex(HI)betweenthe2populations.Regarding pholidosischaracters,morphometricmeasurementsandcolour-patternfeatures,specimenscollectedfromthe2localitiesshowed a similaritytoDarevskiaarmeniaca specimensfrom,,andZigana.

Introduction Chernov(1939)alsoprovederroneous,inthatthere Darevskiaarmeniaca wasfirstdescribedas Lacerta were7malespecimensamongthe180specimensthathe armeniaca fromSevan,Armenia(Mehely,1909).Nowit examined(Darevsky,1957).Darevsky(1966)reported isknownfromnorth-easternTurkey,northernand thatmalespecimensrarelycompletedtheirembryological north-westernArmenia,southernGeorgiaandwestern developmentin Lacertaarmeniaca and Lacertadahli . Azerbaijan(Darevsky,1967;Daresky,1972).The Darevsky(1967)foundnosignificantdifferencesamong distributionrangeof Darevskiaarmeniaca inTurkey 5populationsof Lacertaarmeniaca fromGeorgia, includesthevilayetsTrabzon,ArdahanandKars(Baran ArmeniaandAzerbaijanintermsofpholidosisandstated andAtatür,1998;Sindacoetal.,2000).LantzandCyren thatnoprominentvariationalclinewasexhibitedamong (1936)werethefirstscientiststodrawattentiontothe thepopulationsofthisparthenogenetic.Healso absenceofmalesinthisspecies.Theyreportedthat (1967)notedthatthefairlydistinctdifferencesin ofthe4malespecimensnotedbyBoulenger(1920), morphometricmeasurementsobservedindifferent despitebelongingtoLacertasaxicolaarmeniaca,2werein populationscouldbecorrelatedwiththeelevationoftheir factfemalesandtheremainderweredifferent. habitat.Darevsky(1972)examined4specimens(2 Inexactlythesamemanner,thedatareportedby femalesand2males)of Lacertaarmeniaca fromZigana

Pholidosischaractersconsideredhereconsistedofthe followingcounts:Supraciliargranules(left-right)(SCGa- SCGb),supraciliarplates(left-right)(SCPa-SCPb), MaterialsandMethods supralabialplates(left-right)(SRLa-SRLb),sublabial Specimenswerecollectedfrom2differentlocalitiesin plates(left-right)(SLa-SLb),transversalseriesofgular Ardahan(Figure1)in2001and2003.Colourslidesof scalesbetweeninframaxillarsymphysisandcollar(MG), thespecimensweretakenandthenthespecimenswere collarplates(C),temporals1(temporalsbetween fixedwith5%formaldehydein70%ethanolandthen massetericandtympanicplates)(left-right)(TMP1a- preservedin70%ethanolaccordingtothemethod TMP1b),supratemporalplates(without1 st describedbyBaflo¤luandBaran(1977).Thespecimens supratemporal)(left-right)(STPa-STPb),ventralplates
