    Acrocephalus 31 (147): 175−179, 2010 A Milestone on the Road to Natura 2000 Mejnik na poti k Naturi 2000 The publication “Important Bird Areas of Macedonia: Sites of Global and European Importance” provides a fascinating insight into the natural and cultural heritage of the country. The approved list of sites now includes a wide variety of landscapes hosting bird species that have become rare or threatened in many parts of Europe. Very important is the fact that only about 21% of the national protected area network overlaps the Important Bird Areas of Macedonia. Now an assessment of the natural assets of Macedonia is available for the first time, based on a systematic approach using the international criteria developed by BirdLife International for the selection of sites under the EU Birds Directive. The first results indicate where the country hosts areas of European and even global importance, where urgent conservation measures are needed, and are excellent guidelines for the rural development and tourism. A wide range of political commitments within the European Union is aimed at preserving ecosystems and biodiversity, with various species protection provisions as well as Special Protection Areas (SPAs) identified under the Birds Directive and Sites of Community Importance (SCIs) identified under the Habitats Directive, both incorporated into the Natura 2000 (N2000) network. The publication of the “Important Bird Areas of Macedonia” prepared by the Macedonian Ecological Society (MES) as a national representative of the BirdLife International’s partnership is the first systematic assessment of Macedonia’s sites based on the internationally recognized criteria to implement the Birds Directive.

Hence the need to design a database of the Italian alimurgic flora: AlimurgITA. Only strictly alimurgic taxa were chosen, excluding casual alien and cultivated ones. The collected data come from an archive of 358 texts (books and scientific articles) from 1918 to date, chosen with appropriate criteria. For each taxon, the part of the plant used, the method of use, the chorotype, the biological form and the regional distribution in Italy were considered. The 1103 taxa of edible flora already entered in the database equal 13.09% of Italian flora. The most widespread family is that of the Asteraceae (20.22%); the most widely used taxa are Cichorium intybus and Borago officinalis. The not homogeneous regional distribution of WEPs (maximum in the south and minimum in the north) has been interpreted. Texts published reached its peak during the 2001–2010 decade. The Annual Report of the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission for 2018 contains detailed information on the performance of the competences according to the Energy Law and the Law on Setting Prices of Water Services, as well as information on the material-financial operation. The Energy Law also determines that the Annual Report of the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission needs to be submitted to the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Ministry competent for the performance of the assignments within the energy area, so that they could be informed, as well as to the Energy Community Secretariat. Acta ZooBot Austria 155, 2018, 163–176 Fishes of the River Vjosa – an annotated Checklist Spase Shumka, Paul Meulenbroek, Fritz Schiemer & Radek Šanda Based on a combination of intensive fieldwork for a period of thirteen years (2004– 2017), literature review and review of museum specimens, we hereby provide an up- dated checklist of the fishes of Albanian part of River Vjosa. Our results show that there are at least 31 species of fishes inhabiting the river system, of which 27 are native, including eight species endemic to the Balkans. With 11 species, Cyprinidae are by far the most specious family, followed by Mugilidae (five). Salmonidae and Acipenseridae are represented by 2 species each.

The main research trends have been identified, classified, and check lists compiled for the major headings. Current systematic anatomy on the 'Anatomy of the Monocotyledons' series is reported. Comment is made on areas of research which might prove to be of future significance.

An indoor and an outdoor experiment were carried out at the Agricultural University of Athens. For the indoor experiment, the pre-sowing treatments of stratification (fresh and stratified seeds) and scarification (non-scarified, mechanical scarification and chemical scarification with sulfuric acid) were used as the main treatments, and three different temperatures (15, 20 and 25 °C) as sub-treatments. For the outdoor experiment, there were only the treatments of stratification and scarification. The stratification of asparagus seeds was found to have a positive effect on germination and vigor indices compared to non-stratified (fresh) seeds. The highest germination percentage, vigor index I and II were recorded with the stratified seeds that had been mechanically scarified in both indoor and outdoor conditions.

New data on the distribution of some European species are provided. The male of C. depunctella Toll, 1961, is shown for the first time. Another aim of this project is to promote solidarity as a value, mainly through volunteering, to enhance the engagement of young people and organizations in accessible and high-quality solidarity activities as a means to contribute to strengthening cohesion, solidarity, democracy and citizenship in Europe, while also responding to societal challenges and strengthening communities, with particular effort to promote social inclusion. It shall also contribute to European cooperation that is relevant to young people.
