Tiffany Bloom Business Office Manager Shay Caccioppoli Director of Rehabilitation Carmella Kane, NHA Administrator, Renaissance Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center Resident of the Month; Minnie Dee Reavis 7/27/1917 Minnie Dee Reavis was born to parents Ralph and Maggie Wormley on June 27, 1917 in Locust Hill, VA. She attended school until the 8th grade when during the start of the Great Depression the family needed her to keep their farming and oyster businesses going. In school she was a small, but plucky athlete who was often chosen as the server in their volleyball games. Ultimately, she moved to Philadelphia where she met FEEDING A KINKAJOU DURING A BBQ SEASON AT RENAISSANCE her husband Stephen Reavis. VISIT FROM SAFARI PARTIES HAS BEGUN!

During the 1940’s Minnie worked at the US Signal Corp as part of the war effort and later as a housekeeper. Her 56 year marriage to Stephen produced three children, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was a gracious host and adviser to family, friends, mayors and politicians. Mrs. Reavis participated in her community as a block captain, in her church, and has been known to play a formidable hand of pinochle. Minnie moved to Renaissance in April of 2016 where this past June she celebrated her 100th Birthday. She was surrounded by family and friends with a special party including entertainment by local entertainer Jimmy Wells. The cookie recipe is scheduled as “Kitchen Kapers” @ 2pm on July 31st Ingredients • ½ c. granulated sugar • 1 tsp. baking soda • ½ c. chopped pecans • ½ c. packed brown sugar • ¼ tsp. salt (optional) • ½ c. butter, softened • 1 tbsp. instant coffee • 1 bag (11.5 or 12 oz.) IMPORTANT DATES • 1 egg granules or instant semisweet chocolate • 1 ½ c. all-purpose flour espresso coffee (dry) chunks (2 cups) IN JULY Coffee Drizzle • ½ tsp. instant coffee (or espresso) • 1 tablespoon water Monday July 3rd granules • ½ c. powdered sugar Jimmy Wells Entertains Instructions Heat oven to 350 and line baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large bowl, beat Friday July 7th granulated and brown sugars, butter and egg until creamy. Sift together flour, coffee granules, baking soda and salt. Stir into sugar mixture until well blended. Stir in chocolate chunks and Summer BBQ (Unit to be announced) pecans. Drop dough by ¼ cupfuls about 2” apart onto parchment lined baking sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and edges are set. Cool 4 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, dissolve Tuesday July 11th 1/3 tsp. coffee granules in water. Stir in powdered sugar until smooth and thin enough to drizzle. Drizzle cooled cookies with Coffee Drizzle.
