Despite intense debate over a number of years, auteurist notions in film studies persist and critical attention continues to centre on the director as the sole giver of meaning to a film.

Abstract This article begins with a brief explanation about mass society and the attitudes and behaviors that individuals assume before determined symbolic ficgures. The emergence of the soap opera genre is addressed. A melodramatic model was created in Mexico to be broadcasted and consumed by audiences. From this proposal of narrative models in soap operas rises the production of series that venture on the recreation of historical events by equally developing the lives of key characters of history, and in some cases, alternating with main characters that are ficctional and offer the plot a greater narrative creativity.
