Thank you for selecting NEW SUPER BROS.™ 2 for Nintendo 3DS™. This software is designed only for use with the European/Australian version of the Nintendo 3DS system. Please read this manual carefully before using this software. If the software is to be used by young children, the manual should be read and explained to them by an adult. Before use, please also read the Operations Manual for your Nintendo 3DS system. It contains important information that will help you enjoy this software. Health and Safety Information

IMPORTANT Important information about your health and safety is available in the Health and Safety Information application on the HOME Menu. To access this application, touch the icon on the HOME Menu, then touch OPEN and read the contents of each section carefully. When you are finished, press to return to the HOME Menu. You should also thoroughly read the Operations Manual, especially the Health and Safety Information section, before using Nintendo 3DS software. For precautions related to wireless communication and online play, please refer to the Operations Manual, "Health and Safety Information". Language Selection

The in-game language depends on the one that is set on the system. This title supports eight different languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Russian. You can change the in-game language by changing the language setting of your system. For instructions about how to change the system language, please refer to the System Settings electronic manual. In this game, you control Mario as he races to save . Mario must overcome tricky obstacles and fearsome enemies to conquer each level. And to add an extra layer of challenge, try collecting as many coins as you can along your way! 3 Main Menu

Use  /  to select an option, then press  to confirm. Press  to go back a screen.

Note: marks the total amount of coins (p. 14) you have collected while playing this game. Solo Play (p. 13)

Control Mario in an exciting adventure to rescue Princess Peach! Co-op Play (p. 15) Two players team up and play together via Local Play. Coin Rush (p. 16-17) Play 3 courses in a row trying to collect as many coins as possible. You can receive data from players you meet via StreetPass™. Note: This mode will be unlocked as you progress through the game. Options Here you can adjust in-game settings, such as game controls and SpotPass™ features (p. 18). 4 Save File Selection

Select NEW GAME to start from the beginning. To continue from a previously saved game, select the appropriate save file. Copy Copy a save file to another slot. Delete Delete a save file.

Delete All Save Data After launching the software, wait for the Nintendo 3DS logo to disappear and then hold down +++. You can then delete all save data.

Note: Deleted data cannot be recovered, so be careful. 5 Saving Data

The game is saved at different points depending on the game mode.

Solo Play

When you complete a tower or castle (p. 11), or pass through a Star Coin sign (p. 11), you will be given the option to save your progress. Note: After completing the game, you can save on the map screen whenever you want. Quick Save Pause the game on the map screen (p. 11) and select QUICK SAVE to temporarily save your progress and end the game.

Note: - This quick save will be deleted upon reloading it. - After completing the game, you can save whenever you like.

Co-op Play

The Mario player's game will be saved based on the same rules as for Solo Play. Note: The total coin indicator tallies every coin gathered by both Mario and . For Luigi Players Only the total coins will be saved. Game progress, lives, items (p. 12), etc. will not be saved.

StreetPass and SpotPass

Data will automatically be saved when it is received. Note: Data received via SpotPass (p. 18) will be saved to the SD Card.

● Do not turn the power off and on repeatedly or remove the Game Card or SD Card while saving. Make sure not to reset the system during saves or get dirt in the terminals. These actions could result in permanent data loss. ● Do not use external accessories or software to modify your save data, as this can lead to an inability to progress or loss of save data. Any modification is permanent, so be careful. 6

This software supports Nintendo Network™. Software titles which support Nintendo Network include the Nintendo Network logo on the packaging.

● About Nintendo Network Nintendo Network is an online service which allows you to play with other players all over the world, download new software and add-on content, trade videos, pass messages and much more!

Note: For information about connecting your Nintendo 3DS system to the internet, refer to the Operations Manual.

This software supports receiving data and notifications via SpotPass (p. 18). You can also download course packs for Coin Rush mode via the internet (p. 19). 7 Basic Controls

You can use either  or  to control the game. Move  Dash  /  (while moving) Jump while dashing to get even higher. Jump / Stomp  /  Jump on top of enemies to attack them. Note: The height of your jump depends on how long you press the button. Crouch ↓ Ground Pound ↓ (in mid-air) Wall Jump (in mid-air, while touching a wall)  (towards the wall) +  /  Double / Triple Jump  /  (when landing after a running jump) Do this twice in a row to perform a super-high third jump! Pick Up / Throw Objects Hold  /  and touch the object. Let go of the button to throw the object.

The controls listed in this manual are based on the default settings. You can change the controls in the Options menu. 8 Actions

Enter Pipe  (towards the pipe entrance)

Slide ↓ (on a slope) Damages any enemies you slide into.

Super Mario

Super Super Mush- Damage Leaf room

Mario and Luigi will change form and gain new abilities upon picking up certain items. 10 Power-Up Actions

Fire Mario

Transform using Fire Flower Press  /  to throw a fireball.

Raccoon Mario

Transform using Super Leaf Press  /  to swing your tail and attack. Hold  /  mid-air to wag your tail and gently float down. Fly Run for an extended period to fill up the . When is lit up, hold down  /  to fly for a short time. Gold Mario

Transform using Gold Flower Press  /  to throw a gold fireball. Target blocks to turn them into coins, and target enemies to get lots of extra coins! Note: You will transform into Fire Mario upon completing a course. Mega Mario Transform using Mega Mushroom Run into enemies to defeat them. You can also crash through pipes and blocks!

Note: After a short time, you will revert to . Mini Mario

Transform using Mini Mushroom Mini Mario and Luigi can't defeat enemies by jumping on them, but they can fit through small spaces and run along the surface of water!

Note: - You can only attack enemies with a Ground Pound. - You will lose a life upon taking any damage. 11 World Map Screen

Move Mario to the course you want to challenge. You can use  /  to move the screen left and right across the map.

Current World and Course Highest amount of coins collected for this course Star Coins (p. 14) : Collected : Not yet collected Note: After reaching a Checkpoint Flag (p. 13), any Star Coins you have collected so far will be marked with a on the map screen. Any Star Coins collected after the Checkpoint Flag will not be counted until the course has been completed. Course (glowing): Not completed : Completed : Not yet visited Note: Any courses you complete using an Invincibility Leaf from an Assist Block (p. 13) will be marked with a . Collected Star Coins Lives Remaining / Stored Item shows your current stored item (p. 12). Tower / Castle Star Coin Sign Pay the required amount of Star Coins to bypass the sign and open a new path. Toad House Toad is waiting with useful presents for you! There are different types of Toad Houses, so try to visit them all. Flying Gold Block As you progress through the game, these winged blocks will appear. Simple Map : Current location World Select Touch an icon to transport Mario to that world. Pause Menu Press / to display this menu. From here, you can continue playing, quick-save the game or return to the title screen. Note: You can also pause the game and display this menu in a course (p. 12), but the options are different. 12 Course Screen

Collected Coins Remaining Time Progress : Current Location : Checkpoint Flag (p. 13) : Goal (p. 13) Star Coins (p. 14) A will appear when you collect a Star Coin. Score Stored Item You can store one extra power- up item in reserve. To use it, touch the icon. The highest number of coins you've collected on a particular course. The total amount of coins collected on a particular course. 13 How to Play

Work your way to the goal, defeating enemies and navigating obstacles in your path. Checkpoint Flag After touching the checkpoint flag, it will change colour. If you blunder on this course, you will restart the course from here.

Note: - If you enter another course, the checkpoint will be reset and you will begin again at the start of the course. - If you reach the checkpoint flag as small Mario, you will transform into Super Mario. Goal Grab the Goal Pole to complete the level.

Blunders and Game Over

You will lose a life in any of the following circumstances: ・Taking damage as Small Mario or Mini Mario ・Falling into a ・Running out of time ・Being crushed Game Over If Mario loses all his lives, then it's game over. When you restart, you'll do so with five lives from the last time you saved.

Assist Block If you blunder 5 times on a particular course, an Assist Block will appear. Hit it to release an Invincibility Leaf and transform into White Raccoon Mario. 14 Items / Course Features

Coin Collect 100 of these to gain an extra life.

Super Star For a short time, Mario becomes invincible and can run faster than normal. 1-Up Mushroom Mario gains an extra life.

Star Coin There are three of these in each course. Collect as many as you can to open up new routes on the map. Red POW Block Hit this to let loose a shockwave which destroys nearby blocks. 10-Coin Block This looks just like a regular block, but you earn a coin every time you hit it! Note: If you earn more than 10 coins using this block, it will turn into a Gold Block. Gold Block While wearing this nifty block, Mario will earn coins just by running and jumping! Note: The block will disappear after giving out a certain amount of coins, or when you take damage. Gold Ring Pass through this to turn all enemies gold for a short time. Defeat gold enemies to earn lots of coins! Red Ring Pass through this to make eight red coins ( ) appear. Collect all of these before they disappear to get a free item! P Switch Hit this and see what happens!

There are also other items and course features which are not detailed here. 15 Co-op Play

Play with a friend via Local Play . Luigi joins Mario on his adventure, and the two of them cooperate to rescue Princess Peach. You will find that it is easier to collect more coins when playing together with a friend in Co-op Play! You Will Need ● Two Nintendo 3DS systems ● Two copies of the software Setup ❶ One player selects Mario, another player selects Luigi. Follow the on- screen instructions to proceed. ❷ The player who chose Mario then selects a course to begin.

Course Screen

The player with is the leader. If the other player wanders too far away, he or she will enter a bubble. Total Coins Collected (Both Players) Leader ( ) If the leader blunders or the other player enters a pipe/door first, then the leader role switches to the other player. Bubble Touch to enter a bubble. Bubble Whilst in a bubble, Mario and Luigi cannot take damage. Keep pressing any button to float towards your partner. Touching them will burst the bubble!

Losing Lives

Even if one player blunders, as long as the other player remains on the course, you will not lose a life. The player who made the blunder will re- enter the course in a bubble. In the cases stated below, you will lose a life and be returned to the map screen: ・Both players blunder at the same time. ・One player makes a blunder whilst the other one is in a bubble. Note: If both players enter a bubble at the same time, you will be returned to the map screen but will not lose a life. 16 Coin Rush

Play 3 courses in a row, trying to collect as many coins as possible. The total amount of coins you managed to get will be set as your record. These records can be shared with other players via StreetPass .

How to Play

Select START COIN RUSH to start playing. Select STREETPASS RECORDS (p. 17) to access data from other players. Note: Select to activate StreetPass. Coin Rush Rules ・You will play through a course pack consisting of 3 random courses that have been cleared in the normal game mode. ・The 3 courses must be completed consecutively. A single blunder will result in game over. ・The time limit is a lot shorter than Solo Play or Co-op Play. ・Touch a Checkpoint Flag or grab a + Clock ( ), to add more time to the clock. Sharing Records Select SAVE RECORD to be able to send your record to other players. ・You can only have one record, so make sure it's a good one! ・The other player must also have StreetPass registered. 17 StreetPass Records

Look at and challenge other people's StreetPass records. See if you can get more coins than the other player while still completing the course pack within the time limit!

If you manage to top someone else's record, then you'll receive a reward!

Mii List

Choose a Mii™ to see information about them. Press  to challenge their record or add it to your favourites.

Mii Information Record If you manage to collect more coins than the other player, you will receive a crown coin ( ). Note: The Mii information and records will be displayed when you play with received data. Mii Icons :New Mii characters met via StreetPass. :Mii characters added to favourites. :Mii characters you cannot challenge.

● Data you receive will sometimes include courses you have not yet played. ● You can save up to 15 records. If you save any more after this, older data will be deleted automatically. ● Favourites cannot be deleted automatically.

My Record Bask in your own glory, or try to see if you can do even better!

Deactivating StreetPass

To deactivate StreetPass, open the System Settings and select DATA MANAGEMENT, then StreetPass MANAGEMENT. Touch the icon for this software title, then select DEACTIVATE StreetPass.

Note: You can restrict StreetPass functionality via Parental Controls. For more information, refer to the Operations Manual. 18 Data and Notifications

Activate SpotPass to receive updates about the global coin total and receive Mario-related promotions from Nintendo. Note: Your collected coin total will automatically be sent and added to the global coin total.

Using SpotPass

To use this feature, you must accept the terms of the Nintendo 3DS Service User Agreement and Privacy Policy, and set up an internet connection.

● For information about the user agreement, refer to the Operations Manual. ● Data received via SpotPass will be saved onto the SD Card. Please ensure that the SD Card is always securely inserted into your Nintendo 3DS system. Activation / Deactivation You will have the option to activate SpotPass the first time you start the game. You can deactivate SpotPass at any time from the in-game Options menu (p. 3). Note: If SpotPass is active, the console will automatically send and receive data while in Sleep Mode. 19 Course Packs

You can purchase additional course packs via the internet . For more details about the availability of these, please visit the Nintendo website. Note: For information about connecting your Nintendo 3DS system to the internet, refer to the Operations Manual. What are Course Packs? These are special downloadable packs to be used in Coin Rush, and aren't available in the standard game. Once downloaded, these can be played at any time! Note: The amount of courses you will get varies between course packs. For exact details, please go to the shop.

Purchasing Content

In order to be able to download course packs, you will have to opt into receiving notifications for this title via SpotPass. Once you receive the appropriate notification, the SHOP button will appear in Coin Rush. Please read the information on screen before making a purchase. Note: You can restrict shopping services via Parental Controls. For more information, refer to the Operations Manual.

Add-On Content Precautions ● You can check your purchased content in the Account Activity section of Nintendo eShop. ● This content is non-refundable and may not be exchanged for other products or services. ● Once purchased, content can be re-downloaded for free. Note: This content may no longer be available for re- download if the service is suspended or discontinued, or if you delete your Nintendo eShop account. For details, refer to the Nintendo eShop electronic manual. ● This content will be saved to the SD Card. ● This content is only compatible with the Nintendo 3DS system used to purchase it. If you insert the SD Card into another system, this content will not be available on that system. Adding Funds To purchase course packs, you must have the required funds in your Nintendo eShop account balance. If you do not have the required funds, you will be prompted to add funds. Select ADD FUNDS to proceed. One of the following is required to add funds: ● Nintendo eShop Card ● Nintendo eShop activation number ● Credit card Note: You can save your credit card details on your system. If you do this, you will not need to enter your details every time you add funds.
