Princess Peach Bowser Luigi
English Answers for the lesson on Wednesday, 15 July 2020 2 Profiles (answers) You are not expected to identify every example! Nouns Verbs Adjectives Adverbs Princess Peach Princess Peach has long, blonde hair and blue eyes. She is tall and usually wears a pink evening gown with frilly trimmings. Her hair is sometimes pulled back into a high ponytail. Peach is mostly kind and does not show an aggressive nature, even when she is fearlessly fighting or confronting her enemies. Although often kidnapped by huge Bowser, Peach is always happy to have Bowser on the team when a bigger evil threatens the Mushroom Kingdom. She puts previous disagreements aside. Bowser Bowser is the King of the Koopas. Koopas are active turtles that live in the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser has a large, spiked turtle shell, horns, razor-sharp fangs, clawed fingers and toes, and bright red hair. He is hugely strong and regularly breathes fire. Bowser can also jump high. He often kidnaps Princess Peach to lure poor Mario into a trap. Bowser occasionally works with Mario and Luigi to defeat a greater evil. Then they work together. Luigi Luigi is taller than his older brother, Mario, and is usually dressed in a green shirt with dark blue overalls. Luigi is an Italian plumber, just like his brother. He always seems nervous and timid but is good-natured. He is calmer than his famous brother. If there is conflict, Luigi will smile and walk away. It is often thought that Luigi may secretly love Princess Daisy. . -

Intersections in Gameplay and Narrative in Contemporary
Straddling the Great Divide: Intersections in Gameplay and Narrative in Contemporary Japanese Role-Playing Games by Sarah Michelle Helland A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS in THE COLLEGE OF GRADUATE STUDIES (Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Okanagan) August 2013 © Sarah Michelle Helland, 2013 Abstract This project explores questions concerning whether digital games should be studied in terms of narrative, ludology (gameplay), or both. The project begins by discussing the current state of Game Studies and the ‘narrative vs. ludology’ debate. The author provides a brief outline of contemporary theory surrounding the debate before asserting her central thesis that both gameplay and narrative are integral components of player experience and that both must be acknowledged. The author then outlines her research methodology, which includes textual analyses of two popular Japanese role-playing games. By examining the ways in which morality is depicted in both games, the author posits that the functions of both gameplay and narrative in constructing player experience will become evident. A brief discussion of what constitutes a role-playing game is provided, followed by a discussion of the ways in which digital role-playing games are cultural products. The author includes an analysis of narrative conventions in contemporary Japanese role-playing games in order to resist Eurocentric readings of the two games to be examined. The textual analyses begin with an examination of gameplay in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. An analysis of the game’s narrative elements such as plot, characterization, and theme follows. Through this analysis, the author observes a marked focus upon collectivist morality, which is clearly observable in both the gameplay and narrative elements of the game. -
