Lack of save feature. New Super Mario Bros. DS review A Super Comeback I have recently replayed New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii U’s Virtual Console. It’s a revival of 2D platforming for Mario which prior to it, were just ports of classic Mario games to the Game Boy Advance. It was released for the Nintendo DS in 2006. For Mario’s first new adventure in a while it was a nice comeback, though it does have serious problems. The level design itself isn’t bad nor average, I just don’t think it’s fantastic. While the game is home to great levels (Look at World 4 and World 7 for instance), a lot of them have extreme flaws that prevent me from calling this a great game. The game’s save feature is very limited and only works after you finish a Tower, Castle, or using a Warp Cannon leading to a new world. The Wii U Virtual Console release remedies this by giving you save states but the original game had no reason to not make it where you can save anytime which is a feature you only get after finishing the last level. -

Using the Nintendo Wii ® to Teach Human Factors Principles
AC 2009-1414: USING THE NINTENDO WII ® TO TEACH HUMAN FACTORS PRINCIPLES Lesley Strawderman, Mississippi State University Lesley Strawderman is an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. She conducts research in the area of human factors and ergonomics, specifically looking at the impact of large scale service systems on human use. She has received her IE degrees from Penn State and Kansas State Universities. Page 14.1334.1 Page © American Society for Engineering Education, 2009 Using the Nintendo Wii ® to teach Human Factors Principles Abstract This paper describes how to use of the Nintendo Wii® game console to teach students a variety of human factors principles. First, the concept of Signal Detection Theory (SDT) is explained using a personalized searching game on the Wii®. Next, an activity involving human sensory systems is discussed. Finally, a learning module that addresses control design and feedback, focusing on the game’s controller (Wii Remote or Wiimote) is presented. Potential topic areas for future activities, including human computer interaction, are also discussed. The teaching activities described in this paper have been successfully used by the author in past semesters. A sampling of student feedback is provided in the paper. Finally, a discussion of how the activities could be extended to non-human factors courses and outreach activities is presented. Introduction The Nintendo Wii is a popular video game console that allows the player to interact with the games in many new ways. The focus of the Wii gaming system is its controller, called a Wii Remote. The wireless device functions much like a remote control, but has motion detecting technology that allows players to interact with the Wii games using motions. -

We Hack Wii / USB Loader
Don't upgrade to Wii Firmware 4.2! Instead of updating your Wii firmware, you can just use DOP-Mii to update specific channels such as the Nintendo Channel or Wii Shop Channel without updating the Wii System Menu. This will allow you to shop with the latest Wii Shop Channel without updating the Wii System Menu. However, the guide below DOES work if you are on 4.2 and want to hack your Wii. Don't use IOS60-Patcher for launching games from SD! Instead use DOP-Mii to re-install IOS60 (if you are on Wii Firmware 4.0 or 4.1) or IOS70 (if you are on Wii Firmware 4.2) with the signature hash check (trucha bug). Also, if you are using Preloader and you "dop" IOS60 or IOS70, remember to reinstall Preloader after "doping"; otherwise, you won't be able to load the System Menu. Instead, boot HBC through Preloader to reinstall it. What is USB Loader? USB Loader is an application for the Nintendo Wii which allows you to to install and load your backup ISO game files to/from a USB storage device. It also allows you to create such backups straight from the original DVD, or you can put ISO files which you have backed up to your computer onto your USB drive and load them from there. This guide will prepare your Wii to use USB Loader GX , which will launch both the USB drive and burned DVD-R discs. What if I just want homebrew? If you don't want to launch backup games and just want to enjoy the world of homebrew, homemade games and applications for the Wii, then you only need to follow steps 2 through 4; it couldn't be simpler. -
