Dear Theatregoer,

Welcome to another exciting holiday season at the Walnut! The successes we have celebrated over the past 36 seasons as a not- for-profit producing theatre would not be possible without the support of loyal theatregoers like you. Thank you. You help to make the Walnut the most popular theatre company in Philadelphia and the most subscribed theatre company in the world! And a special welcome to those new to the Walnut. We are delighted you chose to make part of your holidays!

My wife and have always loved sharing the holidays with our family and dear friends. It’s even more wonderful to share good times with you, our Walnut family. Tonight, as we celebrate the extraordinary story of Matilda, you’ll see many familiar faces that have come home for the holidays, as well as new actors that we’ve welcomed with open arms. I am so thrilled and delighted to share this captivating musical with you. Photo: Mark Garvin Upstairs in our Independence Studio on 3, we have Winter Wonderettes. Set at the 1968 Harper’s Hardware Christmas Party, it’s filled with zany humor and classic (and wacky) versions of your favorite seasonal favorites like “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Santa Baby” and over 20 more! This holiday romp is the perfect way to continue to celebrate the season with your whole family. We are also proud that our WST for Kids’ production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol remains a must-see Philadelphia holiday tradition. Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim will fill the hearts of audiences with joy on this very stage. In addition to our exciting productions for kids, our Theatre School classes and Outreach programs continue to make a positive impact in the region, reaching more than 172,000 children annually. None of this would be possible without you. For tonight, I invite you to take a break from the hustle and bustle and enjoy our production of Matilda! The entire Walnut family wishes you all the very best this holiday season.

Sincerely,

Bernard Havard, President and Producing Artistic Director
