Guidebook. July 22-27, 2017 3 FOREWORD International WRB Soil Classification Field Workshop in Latvia and Estonia is a great opportunity for Soil Scientists to stimulate deep reflections on the strong links between soil classification and soil sustainable management and conservation as well as to develop discussion and WRB approbation in the boreo-nemoral region, where soils are influenced by very complex fac- tors and soil processes. Soils are developed mainly on Late Weichselian glacial deposits (formed by loamy sand, sandy clay, loam, clay, gravel, sand) and altered to some extent by postglacial aeolian, marine, lacustrine, alluvial and mire sediments, as well as formed on pre-Quaternary sedimentary rocks. This workshop will look at differently formed automorphous, semihydromor- phous and hydromorphous soils (23 soil profiles and according to WRB soil classification – 12 soil groups (Gleysols, Podzols, Cambisols, Luvisols, Calcisols, Planosols, Histosols, Arenosols, Retisols, Fluvisols, Phaeozems

  • LONG-TERM CHANGES in the WATER TEMPERATURE of RIVERS in LATVIA Inese Latkovska1,2 # and Elga Apsîte1
PROCEEDINGS OF THE LATVIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES. Section B, Vol. 70 (2016), No. 2 (701), pp. 78–87. DOI: 10.1515/prolas-2016-0013 LONG-TERM CHANGES IN THE WATER TEMPERATURE OF RIVERS IN LATVIA Inese Latkovska1,2 # and Elga Apsîte1 1 Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences, University of Latvia, Jelgavas iela 1, Rîga LV-1004, LATVIA, e-mail: [email protected] 2 Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre, Maskavas iela 165, Rîga LV-1019, LATVIA # Corresponding author Communicated by Mâris Kïaviòð The study describes the trends of monthly mean water temperature (from May to October) and the annual maximum water temperature of the rivers in Latvia during the time period from 1945 to 2000. The results demonstrated that the mean water temperatures during the monitoring period from May to October were higher in the largest rivers (from 13.6 oC to 16.1 oC) compared to those in the smallest rivers (from 11.5 oC to 15.7 oC). Similar patterns were seen for the maxi- mum water temperature: in large rivers from 22.9 oC to 25.7 oC, and in small rivers from 20.8 oC to 25.8 oC. Generally, lower water temperatures occurred in rivers with a high groundwater inflow rate, for example, in rivers of the Gauja basin, in particular, in the Amata River. Mann-Kendall test results demonstrated that during the monitoring period from May to October, mean water tem- peratures had a positive trend. However, the annual maximum temperature had a negative trend. Key words: water temperature, long-term changes, river, Latvia.

In the years between the two World Wars the concept became more political in nature: after Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania obtained their independence in 1918 the region gradually became understood as the geographical entity made up of these three republics. Although the Baltic region is geographically fairly homogeneous, each of the newly restored republics possesses unique geographical and strategic features.

Puura Received January 21, 1994; accepted March 25, 1994 Abstract. The established conodont zones in the Cambrian-Ordovician boundary beds in northern Estonia serve as a basis for the interpretation of the succession of changes in the facies cohditions of sedimentation. The facies maps compiled by time interval!? correspond to the Westergaardodina, Cordylodus andresi, C. proavus, C. lindstromi, and C. rotundatus-C. angulatus conodont zones. Phosphorite accumulation was the most intensive during the C. proavus time. The rugged topography of the underlying Lower Cambrian Tiskre and Vaki formations on the territory of the Rakvere phosphorite region was of great significance in the phosphorite accumulation. At the initial stages of phosphorite accumulation three bottom swells (islands) existed there. The most intensive piling up of phosphorite was related to these swells. They coincide in direction with the present Aseri and Ahtme disturbance zones. · l(ey words: Cambrian-Ordovician boundary beds, shelly phosphorite, Estonia. The Rakvere phosphorite region (RPR) is situated in northeastern Estonia; it comprises the Toolse and Aseri deposits in its northern part · and the Rakvere deposit in its southern part. The latter is subdivided into large areas, the most important among them being the Assamalla, Raga vere, and Kabala areas (Fig.

VLÕRU INNA L EHT November 10 (128) 2017 Uus kergliiklusteede võrgustik Võru linnas Kaardil on näidatud Võru linnas asuvate kergliiklusteede ja tänavate lõikude pikkused, mis võimaldavad liikumisharrastajal komplekteerida endale sobiva pikkusega terviseringe.
