Flat Rock Playhouse will be holding Local AEA auditions for their 2020 season at Studio 52 on Monday, January 20 from 10-5pm. There will be an additional dance audition from 5-6pm for those who wish to be considered for A Chorus Line and West Side Story. (Lunch break from 12-1). Casting a diverse company. Qualified actors/singers of all ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

*Please prepare a monologue, and/or 16-32 bars of music in a style appropriate for the 2020 season. You should not exceed 2 minutes total. Grand dame. Elegant, sophisticated, a true beauty. Shelby Eatenton-Laterie: Female. 19. Prettiest girl in town. Loves pink. Strong willed, passionate. M’Lynn Eatenton: Female. 40-50’s. Shelby’s mother. Always knows what’s best, strong, stubborn, the heart of the piece. Ousier (Pronounced Weezer) Bourdreaux: Female. 55-60’s. Wealthy curmudgeon. Tough, eccentric character.

Bryant Choreographer: Matthew Glover MUSICAL Zach, 30’s-40’s the imperious, successful director running the audition. Larry, 30’s his assistant. Don Kerr, 20’s-30’s a married man who once worked in a strip club. Maggie Winslow, 20’s a sweet woman who grew up in a broken home. Mike Costa, 20’s an aggressive dancer who learned to tap at an early age. Connie Wong, 20’s a petite Chinese-American who seems ageless. Greg Gardner, 30’s a sassy Jewish gay man who divulges his first experience with a woman. Cassie Ferguson, 30’s a once successful solo dancer down on her luck and a former love of Zach's. Sheila Bryant, 30’s a sassy, sexy, aging dancer who tells of her unhappy childhood. Bobby Mills, 30’s Sheila's best friend who jokes about his conservative upbringing in Buffalo, New York. Bebe Benzenheimer, 20’s a young dancer who only feels beautiful when she dances. Judy Turner, 20’s a tall, gawky, and quirky dancer. Richie Walters, 20’s an enthusiastic black man who once planned to be a kindergarten teacher. Al DeLuca, 20’s-30’s an Italian-American who takes care of his wife. Kristine Urich (DeLuca), 20’s Al's scatter-brained wife who can't sing. Val Clark, 20’s a foul-mouthed but excellent dancer who couldn't get performing jobs because of her looks until she had plastic surgery. Mark Anthony, 19-20 the youngest dancer who recounts the time he told his priest he thought he had gonorrhea. Paul San Marco, 20’s a gay Puerto Rican who dropped out of high school and survived a troubled childhood. Diana Morales: 20’s Paul's friend, another Puerto Rican who was underestimated by her teachers.

Bryant Choreographer: Matthew Glover MUSICAL Jets: Tony: Handsome, older teen-ager, who has outgrown the Jets Riff: Glowing, driving, intelligent, slightly wacky leader of the Jets Diesel: Lieutenant to Riff, big, slow, steady Baby John: Youngest member of the Jets, awed at everything, even being a Jet A-Rab: Enjoys everything, takes nothing seriously Action: Most aggressive member of the Jets, a cat-like ball of fury Snowboy: Bespectacled, self-styled expert Big Deal: Jet Kiddo: Jet Anybody’s: Scrawny teen-aged girl, pathetically dressed to imitate the Jets Velma: Riff’s girlfriend, young, slithery, sexy, lost in a world of jive. Graziella: Girlfriend of Diesel, impressed with herself.

Sharks: Bernardo: Handsome, proud, fluid leader of the Sharks. Chino: Shy, gentle, sweet-faced young boy, the intended husband of Maria. Maria: Lovely young and obedient immigrant Puerto Rican girl, excited and enthusiastic about her new life in America, but with stubborn inner strength that allows her to evolve into a strong woman. Anita: Older and wiser in the ways of the world, flashy, sharp-tongued, and with a knowing sexuality

The Adults: Doc: Middle-aged drug store owner, tired and worn out. Lieutenant Schrank: Plainclothes policeman used to being in charge. Officer Krupke: A not-too-bright street cop. Glad Hand: Nerdy, cheerful and ill-equipped social director at the gym dance.

Helen on Wheels (Runs Aug. 28-Sept. 12) 1st rehearsal Aug. 11, 2020 By: Cricket Daniel Director: TBD Comedy Helen:(70’s) Feisty, smart and loyal. Spends her days on her front porch with her best friend Zona. Fights with the Sheriff weekly and is the leader of her and Zona. Helen and Zona are the elder ‘Thelma and Louise’ of their town. Zona: (70’s) Helen’s best Friend. Loveable, loyal and sweet. She always has an ear and a shoulder for Helen. A true best friend. Seth: (40’s-50’s) Sheriff and Zona’s son. Tries to uphold the law, but it’s tricky when his own mother is helping to break Helen out of jail. A Barney Fife type. Nelson: (40’s-50’s) Helen’s son. Divorced dad of two, is a lawyer 31 miles away. Gets called to help his mother almost daily and he wants her to move closer to him. Something she doesn’t want to do. Educated and handsome. Elmer:(70’s) Very handsome older gentlemen who is new in town. Elmer, a widower is gentle, polite and intrigued by Helen.

Catch Me if You Can: (Runs Oct. 2-17) 1st rehearsal Sept. 15, 2020 By: Robert Thomas, Jack Weinstock, Willie Gilbert Director: TBD MURDER COMEDY Daniel Corbin: (40’s-50’s) Nervous. Maddened by the ineptitude of the Inspector charges with finding his missing wife. He is hilariously anxiety ridden. Inspector Levine: (40’s-60’s) Cut from the same cloth as Columbo. Though he may seem inept, distracted and disinterested in helping to find the missing wife, he’s far from incapable. Comedic chops a must. Father Kelleher: (40’s-50’s) “A humble servant of the Lord.” Maybe. Father Kelleher has found Corbin’s wife. Or has he? Elizabeth Corban: (30’s-40’s) A knockout. Fresh, outdoorsy, and yet sultry. She is Corbin’s found wife! Only...he says she isn’t. Sidney: (40’s-60’s) “Hilarious little man…” who owns and runs Sidney’s Sandwich Shop. A Catskill combination of Lindy’s and the local general store. Mrs. Parker: (20’s) Tall, slender, beautiful blonde. The boss's wife. Not the sharpest tool. Everett Parker: (40’s) The boss. Tres distingue, gray temples, the quintessence of cool--and he knows it.
