Where the Prairie meets the mountains

16 September to 23 September 2015 Estimated Cost $395 US (Includes FFI fee, host fee & transportation ) Join us in Lethbridge for some great western hospitality while we go to places like Fort Whoop Up and then have BBQ buffalo burgers for supper at your new friend’s house overlooking the Old Man River. Stop at St Mary’s Dam and learn the 100 year history of irrigation in our semi-arid area before continuing on to the Remington Carriage Museum where you’ll see original stage coaches, some used in popular movies. On to the beautiful Rocky Mountains and Waterton Park National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and then a fun evening at the Great Canadian Barn Dance for a show and supper. On Saturday you’ll spend time at the local Farmers Market before heading to the annual Pig & Pumpkin Festival. Wrap up the afternoon learning to paddle a canoe before sitting around a campfire having a wiener roast with s’mores and singing. Finally a day to rest with your host family, maybe lounge around for a while, or go visit the ancient pictographs & hoodoos at Writing on Stone Provincial Park. Next day head out to Bellevue Mine for a tour, on to Frank slide for a tour and picnic lunch and then make your way to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, where you will see how Native Americans used a communal hunting technique that was practiced here for almost 6,000 years. Return to Lethbridge just in time to get ready for an evening with your hosts and new friends at a mix and match supper. Final day is a visit to a Hutterite Colony and a well-earned afternoon to shop or just get ready for your travels tomorrow. A farewell Alberta Beef steak BBQ will wrap up your evening with your new friends. Come and enjoy a unique week with Western hospitality.
