Using Google Earth through Chrome browser (Also for Chromebooks) Google Earth for Chrome is a free version of Google Earth that does not require a download. This allows it to be used on Chromebooks. It works similar to the full download version with a few differences. Download KML file From Resources by Investigation, Investigation 1, part 1, select Landforms Tour. Follow the instructions to create the KML file for your school. Click on the link created and save to your computer where you can find it. You may want to save it to a location that all students can access. Google Earth for Chrome Open Google Earth for Chrome (www.google.com/earth) The first time you use Google Earth on a computer you need to open settings from the menu. Scroll to the bottom and Enable KML file import. Switch this on and save. This only needs to be done once.

Playing the KML file From the menu, select My Places. Select Import KML File and select either Open File or Open from Google Drive, depending on where you have saved the file. When you select the file, it will open in the Google Earth window. To keep the file on the computer, Save. If you are using Chromebooks you will have to save to Google Drive.

Google Earth for Chrome does not have an option to play through all the slides. To move from place to place, click on each Stop to be taken to the location. Click on the “i” icon to get the information pop-up for each stop.

If there are several KML files saved, click on the “eye” icon to hide all of them except the one students are viewing.
