Great Lakes: Authored the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, funding the clean-up and restoration of the St Clair River & creating new opportunities for fishing & outdoor activities
Economic Development: Helped secure resources to support local communities including the Blue Water Convention Center; blight removal in Port Huron; Lapeer, Huron and Tuscola GETTING THINGS Economic Development Corporations; Harbor Beach DONE FOR Community Hospital; and fire departments and law MICHIGAN enforcement agencies throughout the region. Small Business Council of Conservation: Authored legislation making one of the largest America: 2017 Special investments ever to protect our lakes, rivers and drinking Congressional water, and create new habitats for hunting and fishing. The Achievement Award
program is funding eight projects in Michigan including The National Assn of Saginaw Bay Watershed Conservation Partnership. Community Health Centers: 2018 Farm Bill: As Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Distinguished Champion Committee and author of the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bills, supported the region’s agriculture industry- Sugar Beets, Police Officers Assn of Michigan: 2012 Award for Soybeans, Dry Beans, Corn and Dairy - through a stronger farm Congressional Service safety net, research and better access to new domestic and
international markets. Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Farmers Markets: Championed support for local farmers’ Association: 2011 Industry markets and food hubs in Caro Food and Port Austin. Authored Champion Award the Farmer’s Market Promotion Program. Michigan Milk Producers: 2014 Champion of Dairy Veterans Health: Championed efforts to open eight new and
e xpanded VA health clinics in Michigan including Bad Axe Michigan Association of Firefighters: 2005 Outdoor Recreation: Instrumental in the national designation Legislator of the Year
