There were a number of elections held on Council and the Essex County FA also said goodbye to long-serving Council Members Duncan Charlick, Michael Wilmore, Chris Singh, Alan Dare and Chris Lee. Duncan Charlick was first appointed to Council in 2002 as Youth Representative for Group 2, Michael Wilmore in 2009 (Open-Age), Chris Singh in 2010 (initially as Women & Girls Rep and then latterly as Open-Age Rep for Group 2), Alan Dare in 2013 (Open-Age) and Chris Lee (Essex Referees Association), also in 2013. We would like to place on record our thanks for the service provided and wish everyone success in their future roles within football. The Council also undertook change to its structure during the 2017/18 season which would see a reduction In Open-Age Representatives in each Group Area from three to two being phased in. In-line with this, the following individuals were re-elected onto Council: Dave Threadgold (Group 1 Open-Age), Roger Crane (Group 1 Open-Age), Alec Berry (Group 3 Open-Age). Graham Hall also continued to serve as the Essex County Schools FA Representative. The volunteer Council Members again undertook their regulatory and management role and they were involved in many Council, disciplinary, refereeing, competitions and rules meetings throughout the 2017/18 season. 2017/18 Council Members: Morris Jeffers, Gordon Snell, John Bays, Richard Brooks, Michael Hemsted, Edward Rhymes, Michael Game, Keith Miller, Jeffrey Saxton, Alec Berry, David Threadgold, Duncan Charlick, Sheryl Macrae, David Emerton, Wayne Deller, Roger Crane, Michael Willmore, Christopher Singh, Barry Fitzgerald, Kevin Curran, Mark Holmes, Chris Lee, Alan Dare, Graham Hall, Andy Chaplin, Martin Berry, Kim Farmer, Danny Coyle. Essex County Football Association Annual Report (2017/18) 4 The Board We saw one change take place in June, with David Threadgold retiring from his position on the Board due to serving for twelve years. In conjunction with Council, it was agreed to not directly replace David with an existing Council Member but to recruit an Independent Director through an open application process which would take place during the summer of 2018. Wayne Deller remained as Chairman and David Threadgold, Barry Fitzgerald and Andrew Chaplin continued as Directors of the Essex County FA. The Board continued to oversee all matters of company operations. Staffing By the end of June 2018, the County FA employed 24 members of staff - 20 full time and four part time. In addition, we continue to have around 70 casual employees who carry out coaching, tutoring and physiotherapy roles. There was a period of reorganisation within the staff team during the 2017/18 season which saw Sam Robinson and Kevin Watts depart to take up posts within the education and local authority sports development sectors. Maryanne Dennis also departed following maternity leave. We are an honest bunch and we know ourselves that we didn’t turn up against Portishead we looked tired and leggy from the midweek heroics against Street. Against Radstock the overall performance was more pleasing than the result but poor finishing and some questionable decisions from the officials cost us dearly. Today is a chance to take our minds off getting them much needed league points to get that monkey off our back and enjoy playing higher league opposition again in the FA Cup. So enjoy your day and always remember everyone wants the underdogs to cause an upset.

    The History of Offside by Julian Carosi www.corshamref.org.uk The History of Offside by Julian Carosi: Updated 23 November 2010 The word off-side derives from the military term "off the strength of his side". When a soldier is "off the strength", he is no longer entitled to any pay, rations or privileges. He cannot again receive these unless, and until he is placed back "on the strength of his unit" by someone other than himself. In football, if a player is off-side, he is said to be "out of play" and thereby not entitled to play the ball, nor prevent the opponent from playing the ball, nor interfere with play. He has no privileges and cannot place himself "on-side". He can only regain his privileges by the action of another player, or if the ball goes out of play. The origins of the off-side law began in the various late 18th and early 19th century "football" type games played in English public schools, and descended from the same sporting roots found in the game of Rugby. A player was "off his side" if he was standing in front of the ball (between the ball and the opponents' goal). In these early days, players were not allowed to make a forward pass. They had to play "behind" the ball, and made progress towards the oppositions' goal by dribbling with the ball or advancing in a scrum-like formation. It did not take long to realise, that to allow the game to flow freely, it was essential to permit the forward pass, thus raising the need for a properly structured off-side law.

    Introducción El presente proyecto de grado categoría Proyecto Profesional, titulado San Lorenzo y la Moda, pretende investigar a cerca de la historia del Club San Lorenzo de Almagro, desde el origen hasta la actualidad, con el fin de lograr un nuevo diseño de camiseta que refleje los emblemas que sean representativos de la institución. Dicho Proyecto de Grado se ubica en la línea temática, como nuevos profesionales, ya que, se intentará profundizar en las necesidades y las demandas del público de San Lorenzo para luego diseñar. La metodología que se utilizará para la realización de objetivo general, será indagar en lo más profundo de la historia del Club. Cada detalle era fundamental para poder comprender aun más. Además unos de los objetivos, en primera instancia, será poder lograr llevar a cabo una producción de la camiseta inspirada en principalmente en San Lorenzo. Una vez finaliza el Proyecto Profesional se continuará con la diseños de la indumentaria deportivo completa de la institución. En primer lugar, para desarrollar dicho producto se investigará desde el origen de la indumentaria deportiva, como un marco conceptual. Lejanas quedan aquellas vestimentas de finales del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX con futbolistas con modelos que eran fiel reflejo de la época. Modelos más cerca del polo que del fútbol, solían utilizar camisas con abotonadas hasta el cuello y pantalones largos que luego se convirtieron en cortos hasta la altura de las rodillas. La indumentaria deportiva es estilo de ropa que más se vende a nivel mundial y su historia data de varias décadas atrás. De hecho, es posible trazar la evolución de la ropa deportiva como la moda, simplemente teniendo en cuenta en los logos emblemáticos que han salpicado la ropa en los últimos seis decenios.

VERMONT SOCCER OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION AN ANECDOTAL HISTORY SERVING VERMONT HIGH-SCHOOL SOCCER FOR 50 YEARS September 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Vermont Soccer Officials Association (VSOA). During that month I had the good fortune of refereeing a girls’ game in Chester with one of the eight Founding Members of the Association, Stew Schmidt. Prior to the coin toss I asked Stew to reflect on the most significant rule change he had seen in those 50 years. “I will give you two. When a ball went off one team ‘into touch’ or out-of-bounds along the sideline, a free kick was awarded in those days to the other team. Now it is a throw-in. The second is the prohibition on the goalie from picking up the ball after a deliberate kick to him from a teammate.” Driving home from the game I realized there must be many other changes in the game of soccer in Vermont since the era when the VSOA emerged. Perhaps more interestingly, soccer officiating would have seen its share of characters with fascinating backgrounds and stories about the game itself and their inevitable successes and mistakes on and off the field.
