President’s Report 2018/19

1 Sheridan would like to acknowledge that all of its campuses reside on land that for thousands of years before us was the traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinaabe Nation, Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. It is our collective responsibility to honour and respect those who have gone before us, those who are here, and those who have yet to come. We are grateful for the opportunity to be working on this land.

At 51 years young, we continue to incubate bold ideas and nurture the talent needed to resource our economy. The stories that follow highlight the people, places and programs that have helped us to foster creativity and ingenuity. Each story also underscores our institutional commitment to quality, character and accountability – three pillars that guide our approach to teaching and learning, and the pursuit of research and creative activities. Read further to learn about exciting milestones and the inspired donors who fuel our work. Day in and day out we ignite people’s passion for learning and contribute to the economic and social well-being of our home communities. I couldn’t be more excited about Sheridan’s future. Warmly, Janet Morrison, PhD President and Vice Chancellor

18 19 President’s Report | Accountability Financial review GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR SHERIDAN AS A PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL REVENUE

Serving the public good, funded in part by the public dollar, demands our unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility. This past year, revenue from tuition – domestic and international students combined – almost doubled the funding we received from taxpayer dollars. Ontario’s postsecondary institutions receive the lowest grant and tuition revenue combined in the country. Within the province, colleges receive less than their university and high school counterparts.

We never forget that our students invest heavily in their education. This knowledge fuels our commitment to providing our students with great value for money, and to running our operations with the utmost efficiency and integrity.
