Adam Ellwood

During my time at Sheridan College, I had the good fortune to work as part of the therapy staffs for both the and the Hamilton Bulldogs. After graduation in 2010, I took a clinical position in my home city of Windsor, and worked with the Canadian Junior program. My time with the Canadian Baseball team allowed me to travel throughout the Americas including; Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Colombia.

Question & Answer

Q: Favourite moment/part of working in the CFL? A: My favourite moment of working in the CFL is travelling and being on the field to hear the noise and the crowds in each city.

Q: Hardest thing about working in the CFL? A: The hardest moment working in the CFL is time commitment and extended long days throughout the season. Treatment starts at 6:30am, followed by taping from 8am-9. Player meetings at 9 are a good time to set up the field and get some paper work completed. Practice from 10:30- 12:30, followed by treatment from 1:30- 4pm. Clean up and prepare for following day, hopefully leaving the stadium by 5pm.

Q: Some tips for students that would like to do what you do? A: Some tips for Candidate students interested in the Profession are to build your resume, volunteer and meet as many AT’s as possible. You never know when you’ll make an impression on someone in the field that might one day have an opportunity for you.

Q: Describe a typical day? A: Practice day: 6:30 am: Treatment starts 8:00 am to 9:00 am: Taping 9:00 am: Player meetings, field set up, paperwork 10:30 to 12:30: Practice 1:30 to 4:00 pm: Treatment 4:00 to 5:00: Clean up, prepare for the following day 5:00pm: Leave the stadium

Q: If you weren’t doing this job, what would you love to be doing? A: I love being an AT because it is unique. There are so many options for you to do for work. I enjoy both field and clinical aspects of the job that is a good fit for me.

Q: A memorable moment or Injury? A: A memorable moment or injury is to always enjoy the dinners we had with the medical and equipment staff on the road. We always have a great time to relax and share non-related football conversations. The most interesting injury was a full patella tear during a game in Edmonton. Not the first thing you think or learn about when you think of knee injuries but interesting to see and deal with in person.
