that helps also to add greater importance to the non-formal learning process during the projects in general, and youth exchanges in particular, is not completely understood by many organizations that are implementing it. With the support of the partners that we met in Estonia, we proposed to set up a training dedicated to organisations, dealing with youth exchanges and that need to increase their knowledge on Youthpass: evaluate the existing experience and gain concrete tools in order to put it into practice during their activities and to implement it not just as a diploma, but as a motivating self-accessed recognition tool. 4)Programme or initiative: Youth in Action Reference number: IT-13-27-2010-R4 Beneficiary Organisation: Work in Progress Title of the Project: Youth4Europe:An ABC to youth participation

Description: Work in Progress deals intensively with the topic of youth partecipation since several years. We developed numerous projects and collected a lot of inforamtion and good practices. Our experience is that very often youth participation initiatives are not successful if they come from adults. They are not suited to the interests, needs and style of young people. This project will give the chance to almost 50 young people to partecipate in a complex and coherent self- development programme and became “participation ambassadors”.The programme for the ambassadors will encompass international peer education meetings, facilitating a local youth forum in another country, coaching and support activities and implementation of their own participation activity. First, young people will partecipate in one of the three international peer educational meetings (organised in France, Portugal, Malta and Italy). These short meetings will give young people a chance to come up with their own innovative, creative or even crazy ideas and concept for youth partecipation. It will be a chance for them to share experience, learn new skills and develop their competences for promotion of partecipation. In the end of the meeting there will be a local youth forum. The partecipation ambassadors will have the role of facilitator at these local youth forums. This will be integral part of the meeting so that they can use their newly acquired knowledge in practice. At the some time, it will be a unique peer learning concept as the youth forums will be led by young people for young people and with an international dimension. Young people from the local community will be invited to the youth forums as well as local decision- makers. This will give a chance to many young people (including disadvantage young people) to express their opinion about local issues and problems as well as to discuss with the decision-makers how to increase youth participation in solving these issues. We will involve the local authorities and ask the patronage from the European deputies among the represented countries. It will also promote generally the concept of youth parteciaption among other young people, decision-makers and general public. Municipality of Lecce, Youth Office and Youth Information center of Lecce will be official partner. The international meeting connected with youth forum will be just first part. As a follow-up, young “participation ambassadors” will be provided with coaching and support by experienced youth workers. When they will come back from the meeting, they will be motivated to organise a small-scale participation initiatives in the local group. This will give them a chance to use their experience in pratical and multiply the participation concept. A few hundred young people will benefit indirectely from these project. We will also create an Internet portal about youth participation. This will serve as a platform for promotion of youth participation among young people, decision-makers, media and general public and for exchange of good practices. It will also increase the visibility of the project and Youth in Action programme. This idea of Youth4Europe: A european ABC to youth partecipation came out after Work in Progress has been the italian partner in another action 1.3 supported by French National Agency. At the end of the project named “Young and Partecipative” the italian partecipant created a workgroup with the Wip referent ant they wrote this project with all the competences that we acquired in this year.

On the other hand, all the global issues affect also the European countries. Young people will discover these topics through simulation games, excercises, activities for interaction with local community, discussions in small groups, plenary session, concrete actions workshops, etc. These topics require not only formal knowledge, but also the reflection about values and attitudes. That is why the non-formal education needs to be used. Young people will reflect on what they can do in their every day life to behave more responsibly and to inspire also their local community to change their way of life. We will also present young people the Youth in Action programme and motivate them to organise their own projects on local or international level to support global development. After young people come back home, they should act as multipliers of their newly acquired knowledge and experience. The project will also involve several activities for visibility of the event as well as the whole Youth in Action programme (sending of a press release, interaction with local community, creation of a website, etc.).
