Lecce Stone (Italy): proposed as a candidate for “Global Heritage Stone Resource” Piero Primavori Milano, Italy ([email protected]) Lecce stone is a Miocenic white to pale yellow colored bio-calcarenite from Italy’s Salento area (Apulia region), occurring near the city of Lecce, hence the name “Lecce stone”. Widely used as a construction material in historical buildings in South Italy, sought-after and appreciated by architects, sculptors and artists for its malleability and easy processing, it has reached international fame thanks to the multitude of historical uses and to the echo of local artisans who, over the centuries, have given life to the complex Lecce Baroque architecture. It has successively known an increasing diffusion also out of Italy, as a decorative dimension stone. Available in many different varieties, it is mined in huge, open cast quarries, up to 50 m deep, distributed in the territory of the municipalities of Lecce, Corigliano d’Otranto, Melpignano, Cursi and Maglie (SoutheEastern portion of Apulia region). It is characterized by an unusual versatility, making possible its application almost in any ﬁeld: traditional building, sculpture, architectural works, modern 3D realizations, ﬁne crafts objects, up to challenging structural uses. Given the wide spectrum of activities and projects carried on for its conservation and restoration in the Baroque buildings and monuments of Lecce city, this stone may also be regarded as a suitable reference for the study and management of monumental heritage in terms of its preservation. The note intends to provide a synthetic overview of Lecce Stone, and, in the light of its enormous impact on the history, traditions, culture and environment of the Salento area, to propose it as a potential candidate to GHSR designation..

A preliminary list of the mammal remains from the upper part of the succession, has been compared with other Pleistocene Apulian sites. The identified taxa are represented by cranial and postcranial fragments and isola- ted teeth of bovids, cervids, equids, canids and lagomorph. In the same deposit also few Mousterian stone tools have been found. The study of the mammal assemblage and the lithic tools suggest that the upper part of the succession exposed at Cava Spagnu- lo could be referred to the second part of the marine isotopic stage 3.

Pauca: A Working Possibility of Restoration Marco Scortichini CREA-Council for Agricultural Research and Economics, Research Centre for Olive, Fruit and Citrus Crops, Via di Fioranello 52, I-00134 Roma, Italy; [email protected] Received: 3 July 2020; Accepted: 12 August 2020; Published: 19 August 2020 Abstract: In Salento, the olive agro-ecosystem has lasted more than 4000 years, and represents an invaluable local heritage for landscape, trade, and social traditions. The quarantine bacterium Xylella fastidiosa subsp. pauca was introduced in the area from abroad and has been widely threatening olive groves in the area. The successful eradication of quarantine phytopathogens requires a prompt identification of the causative agent at the new site, a restricted infected area, a highly effective local organization for crop uprooting and biological features of the micro-organism that would guarantee its complete elimination. However, at the time of the first record, these criteria were not met. Interdisciplinary studies showed that a zinc-copper-citric acid biocomplex allowed a consistent reduction of field symptoms and pathogen cell concentration within infected olive trees. In this perspective article, it is briefly described the implementation of control strategies in some olive farms of Salento. The protocol includes spray treatment with the biocomplex during spring and summer, regular pruning of the trees and mowing of soil between February and April to reduce the juvenile of the insect vector(s). Thus far, more than 500 ha have begun to follow this eco-friendly strategy within the “infected” and “containment” areas of Salento.

COMUNE DI CORIGLIANO D’OTRANTO Provincia di Lecce RELAZIONE PERFORMANCE ORGANIZZATIVA - Anno 2016 - La relazione della performance prevista dall'art. 10, comma 1 lettera b) del decreto legislativo 27 ottobre 2009, n. 150 (c.d. decreto Brunetta) costituisce il principale strumento con il quale l'Amministrazione illustra a tutti i soggetti interni ed esterni i risultati ottenuti nel corso dell'anno. Tutte le pubbliche amministrazioni predispongono il piano della performance al fine di individuare gli obiettivi da raggiungere, sia come performance dell'intera organizzazione con le sue singole articolazioni sia come performance individuali che ogni responsabile della struttura deve raggiungere. ONOFRIO DEL VI SECOLI DI CAST IGNANO DEI GRECI Era una necessità tradurre in realtà quanto si tramandava da padre in figlio e nello stesso tempo rompere il silenzio tenuto sino ad oggi su un edificio sacro affrescato in Castrignano dei Greci: la cripta bizantina di SantOnofrio. Detta cripta fu interrata molti anni fa perchè stava diventando un deposito di rifiuti. Valeva la pena praticare gli opportuni scavi per prendere cognizione de visu. Informai il Consiglio Comunale dellesistenza della cripta e nello stesso tem- po resi pubblica la notizia, interessando la stampa regionale e provinciale, ( « Gaz- zetta del Mezzogiorno » - « Il Popolo del Salento »), oltre che la Soprintendenza ai Monumenti e alle Gallerie di Bari che per due volte fino ad ora ha invia- to sul posto lArchitetto Giovanni Mongiello, S. E. il Prefetto di Lecce, il Presiden- te dellAmministrazione Provinciale, il Presidente dellE.P.T. di Lecce, i Parla- mentari, A tutti coloro, a nome dellAmministrazione Comunale, rivolgo un caloro- so ringraziamento per laiuto morale e materiale offertoci.
