Works closely with: Assistant Site Manager, The Exhibitions, Curatorial and Learning teams and the Head of Events and Events Coordinator

Purpose of job:

This role supports the Site and Security Manager in maintaining the Site, Offices and Gallery and ensuring a high-standard of presentation. The role is primarily to support with general maintenance and portering tasks, setting up for and clearing away after events, installing and repairing furniture and equipment, ordering site supplies and assisting the team with contractors. Ensuring good site presentation is an important part of this job.

Main Responsibilities:

• Support the Assistant Site Manager in carrying out preventative maintenance tests and checks including the fire alarm, emergency lighting, external power supplies, restocking first aid kits, checking fridge and water temperatures, ladders and the Gallery’s Artmobile vehicle. • Assist with carrying out first line repairs and maintenance tasks including but not exclusive to: putting up shelving, assembling and moving office furniture, changing light bulbs, unblocking sinks and toilets, repairing pipe leaks, basic painting & decorating. • Assisting in the grounds by gritting paths, litter picking, emptying bins and clearing leaves, as well as some minor gardening work (seasonal). • Ensure that the gallery’s public spaces are kept tidy and according to presentation standards at all times, including tidying, restocking leaflets etc. • Participate in daily Site walk-rounds with the Assistant Site Manager and follow up actions noted. • Undertake porterage tasks including setting up and clearing away furniture and equipment for classes and events. • Support the reception team in receiving deliveries and providing short duration reception cover. • Set up and assist with the maintenance of AV equipment for events and meetings. • General facilities and IT equipment support (e.g. replacing toner cartridges, first line maintenance of photocopier, resolving printer jams etc.). • Working in collaboration with the Learning team provide support to the Education Centre by keeping it tidy, moving furniture, setting up equipment and cleaning the chairs and tables. • Working with the Assistant Site Manager, ensure that all drains and gullies are free flowing and clean (including periodically working at height on the Gallery’s roofs to clear leaves from guttering). • Manual handling of heavy boxes of retail stock and supporting with other deliveries. • Help keep storage areas tidy and clear. • Be aware of any permanent or temporary hazards to visitors’ and colleagues’ safety and take appropriate action. • Use the Gallery’s genie lift, tower scaffold and rooftop cable-arrest system to gain access to the upper parts of the Gallery (training will be provided) • Assist the curatorial team with putting up displays and re-hanging artworks and installing protection for artworks when work is taking place • Comply with the Gallery’s H&S and COSHH policies and safe-working and security procedures. • Be proactive and have a positive approach to staff and visitors • Deputise for the Assistant Site Manager when absent. • Take on any other duties as reasonably required by the Site and Security Manager

Essential attributes

• Experience of undertaking building maintenance and repairs • Practical and hands-on as well as having initiative and motivation • Friendly and helpful manner when in contact with the public and staff. • High level of attention to detail and presentation skills • Ability to work alone and work effectively within a team • General AV knowledge and ability/interest to learn • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling (training will be provided)

Desirable attributes • Health and Safety training • Art handling experience • First-aid and COSHH trained • Experience of working with the general public • Interest in art and culture

Terms and conditions Salary Range: Band A: Living Wage at current rate.

Core Working Hours: 40 hours per week, worked over 5 days a week, including some weekends. This role will require some early morning and evening duty work as the needs of the business dictate. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a basic disclosure check.

Leave entitlement: 25 working days per annum, plus statutory holidays and 2 additional non- contractual days may be added at the Gallery’s sole discretion

Pension: The Gallery auto enrolls employees into a pension scheme in accordance with Part 1 of the Pensions Act 2008; employees contribute 3% and the Gallery 6% into this scheme
