St ’s School Weekly Newsletter

Number 104 25 April 2021

As the lockdown slowly loosens, and with the promise of normality on the horizon, St Philomena’s certainly seemed a different school this week as we returned for the Summer Term. With the sun shining every day, the children made the most of playing outside in their extended bubbles. This week also saw the return of external sports, with Forms III to VI playing cricket and rounders at Frinton Cricket Club and running along the greensward. Next week Forms I and II begin tennis lessons at Frinton Tennis Club. We may not have our own extensive grounds, but we certainly make the most of the fabulous facilities around us.

The after school activities programme restarted this week and it was good to see so many children participating in the variety of clubs on offer: Role Play, Netball, Cricket, Tennis, Summer Games, Multi skills, Fun and Games, Quiz Club, Get Creative and Construction Club; there should be something on offer to suit everyone.

The Tuition Centre is back up and running, welcoming children from the local community as well asSt Philomena’s. With an 11 plus success rate of 71% and 12 scholarships to independent secondary schools awarded this year, we look forward to helping more pupils achieve their potential over the coming years.

This week we welcomed two families and three new pupils to St Philomena’s: Ruan Harris and Poppy Marsh in Reception and Jessica-Rose Marsh in Form IV. I hope they soon feel part of the wonderful community that is St Philomena’s.

Philippa Mathews Headteacher

Each week the class teachers nominate one or two pupils from their class. Pupils can be nominated for a variety of reasons such as showing care, courtesy and consideration to others, for trying their very best in a subject they find particularly challenging, for an excellent attitude to learning, for exemplary manners. We hope to value the whole child with this award, not just the academic achievements.
