THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THE PROTECTION
The key to the superior performance found in our protective garments made with GORE® Chemical Splash Fabric is the expanded PTFE-based GORE® membrane, which provides liquid chemical penetration resistance and moisture vapor permeability at the same time.
GORE® Chemical Splash Fabric is a durable 3-layer laminate fabric consisting of an outer fabric, a GORE® membrane, and an inner fabric liner. The outer and inner fabrics protect the membrane while providing durability, tear resistance, water and stain repellency as well as visibility. All of which are important elements in working within a chemical environment.

Protective garments made using GORE® Chemical Splash Fabric provides liquid splash protection while maintaining comfort. Clothing made from this exceptional fabric allows the body to ‘breathe,’ so your sweat can evaporate through the GORE® membrane, providing relief from heat stress. Because it is lightweight and comfortable, it can be worn for an entire shift without excessive overheating.
Vinyl or rubber suits on the other hand, are often made using coated materials which are hot and heavy to wear. Workers are uncomfortable in this type of garment, and with prolonged wear, will often become sweaty, sticky, exhausted, and in extreme cases even disoriented.

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE ATTRIBUTES
Seams are vulnerable areas prone to chemical penetration. Our garments are sewn using Tenara® thread, which is thermally stable and chemically inert, preventing seam failure during a chemical splash. All garment stress points are reinforced. In addition, all our garments are seam-sealed using GORE-SEAM® tape providing consistent performance against liquid penetration.

3 LIQUID SPLASH PROTECTION
When liquid splash protection is needed but you do not require vapor protection, it is appropriate to choose a FHUWL¿HGOLTXLGVSODVKSURWHFWLYHHQVHPEOHZKLFKPHHWVWKH1)3$ VWDQGDUG7KHVHSURWHFWLYHHQVHPEOHVDUH VHOHFWHGIRUWKHLUFDSDELOLW\WRSURWHFWDJDLQVWDVSHFL¿FFKHPLFDOEDVHGRQSHQHWUDWLRQGDWD $670) 3HQHWUDWLRQLVWKHEXONÀRZRIDOLTXLGFKHPLFDOWKURXJKWKHPDWHULDOVHDPVRUVXLWFORVXUHV1)3$ associates liquid-tight integrity and penetration data (ASTM F903) with liquid splash protection. Since garments of this type are designed to protect the wearer from liquid contact, but allows exposure to vapors, permeation data is inappropriate for judging material performance for this level of protection.
In addition, the overall ensemble must also demonstrate liquid-tight integrity. NFPA 1992 provides test methods and criteria for making this assessment. Organizations such as the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) and 8QGHUZULWHUV/DERUDWRULHV 8/ SHUIRUPSURGXFWFHUWL¿FDWLRQVRQSURWHFWLYHJDUPHQWHQVHPEOHVHQVXULQJWKDWWKH\ meet the NFPA standard.
Other test methods are often used to describe the liquid resistance of materials. However, the choice of liquid splash protective clothing should be based upon the results of penetration testing that has been performed in accordance with procedures in ASTM F903, Procedure C, as does NFPA 1992. These criteria provide a truer evaluation of liquid barrier performance.

The National Fire Protection Association publishes standards for chemical protective clothing. One of those standards is NFPA 1992 (2012 edition) – Standard on Liquid Splash protective Ensembles and Clothing for Hazardous Materials Emergencies. Each standard sets minimum levels of performance for protection provided by the overall ensemble, garment material, seams, closures, and other components. These criteria have been written with the hazardous chemical emergency response team in mind, but they can apply to a number of other protective clothing applications as well.

Before determining the best suited protective garment for use in any chemical application, consult a trained professional in safety or industrial hygiene. Chemical Splash Protection garments manufactured by Lac-Mac Limited should be used only for those situations where you do not need vapour protection or where vapour exposure is determined to be acceptable by an industrial safety or health professional. Because garments manufactured from GORE® Fabric for Chemical Splash Protection are vapour-permeable, they should not be used for protection against hazardous vapour exposures, or for exposures to carcinogens or other health threatening materials.
The following is an excerpt from the GORE® Fabric for Chemical Splash Protection Application Guide and details chemical penetration test data for a selection of chemical challenges.

Use garments made from GORE® Fabric for Chemical Splash Protection for these chemicals only in controlled situations if vapour exposure has been deemed acceptable by an industrial safety, hygiene or health professional. Failure to comply with this warning may result in serious injury or death.
The chemical penetration data is colour coded to assist in determining the proper application for protective clothing made from GORE® Fabric for Chemical Splash Protection.
