CORNISHMEN ABROAD At a largely attended meeting of the Cornish Association held at Blakes Hotel, New York, it was decided to hold a Cornish picnic on August 23rd., when each participant should provide his or her own "crouse" of and saffron cake. As the association was formed primarily to assist Cornishmen to obtain employment it was suggested that the monthly subscription of half a dollar should be continued, and that out of the funds assistance should be given when needed. A social which followed was attended by a large number of , those from St. Austell including F. Banfield, Kenneth Daniel, W. Martin, S. Trethewey, L. Menear, S. Blake and R. Craggs. During the evening Mr. Luther Menear, of Trezaize, St. Austell, arrived at the hotel on his way home, and was heartily welcomed by the gathering.
