ANNUAL REVIEW 2015/2016 Gwytha ha Crefhe! 30 years preserving and strengthening our Cornish heritage In the early 1980’s there was a growing concern that too much of the Cornish heritage was under threat from potential private buyers. Two such sites were Land’s End and Lamorna Cove and there was no organisation in Cornwall with the ability to raise the funds required to save the sites. On the 19th February 1983 a group of people got together with the idea of forming such an organisation with the aim of saving buildings, ancient artifacts and important heritage sites. It was the irst of regular meetings, held at the Royal Hotel in Truro, and the Oficers elected were Acting Chairman The Honourable Robert Eliot, Acting Vice Chairman Mrs June Lander, Secretary Mr John Menhinick, Assistant Secretary Mr Jack Spry and the Treasurer Mr Tim Le Grice. In Frodsham we were able to celebrate the life of Harriet Shaw Weaver, granddaughter of Edward Abbot Wright of Castle Park. Harriet was born at East Bank (now Fraser House), Bridge Lane on 1st September 1876. The family moved to Hampstead in 1892 when Harriet’s mother, Mary Berry (Wright) Weaver, inherited a considerable fortune on the death of her father. Harriet became a staunch campaigner for women’s rights as well as an important figure in avant-garde literary circles. She died on 14th October 1961.
