Der Jubel im Zielbereich war gewaltig, schließlich hatte eine deutsche Mixed-Staffel zuletzt 2010 im sibirischen Chanty-Mansijsk den Titel geholt. 2016 gab es in Oslo Silber - der Polizeiobermeister und Teamkollege Schempp waren beide Male dabei. Zur Halbzeit lag Deutschland hauchdünn vor Frankreich in Führung, der Medaillentraum lebte. Nach Startläuferin Vanessa Hinz und Laura Dahlmeier ging Arnd Peiffer an Position drei in die Loipe. Der Bundespolizist, ehemalige Sprint-Weltmeister, machte seine Sache hervorragend. Zehn Schüsse, zehn Treffer - der 29-Jährige baute den Vorsprung vor dem letzten Wechsel auf beachtliche 2 21,2 Sekunden aus. "Ich wollte mir die Nachlader ersparen und habe bewusst geschossen. Ich bin total froh, dass es heute so gut geklappt hat", sagte Peiffer. Bei einem packenden Finish brachte Schlussläufer Simon Schempp schließlich den deutschen Triumph mit 2,2 Sekunden vor Frankreich und 3,2 Sekunden vor Russland (+3,2) über die Ziellinie.
