The Chrism Mass Each year during Holy Week, the Bishops of every diocese gather together with all their priests to bless and consecrate the Sacramental Oils that will be used for the next year: Oil of the Catechumens, Oil of the Sick, and the Sacred Chrism. The priests renew the promises of their ordination; for we recall that it was at the Last Supper that Christ instituted the Sacred Priesthood. The Chrism Mass this year will be on Tuesday, March 30th at 10:30 AM at Saint Columba Cathedral in Youngstown (by invitation only).

The Office of Tenebrae The , will be celebrated on Spy Wednesday, March 31st at 7:00 Office of Tenebrae PM in the Basilica. Tenebrae is a Catholic liturgical prayer service that originated in the Middle Ages as part of the Divine Office, or the Liturgy of Hours as it is known. As several of the Psalms are chanted, many rich symbols are used to remind us of what the Lord underwent for our salvation. Tenebrae means darkness or shadows and the rite makes use of light and darkness as the prayer goes forward. This is a very beautiful, moving, prayerful event. Please join us.

The Sacred Triduum

Holy Thursday ~ Mass of the Lord’s Supper Join us as we remember the Mandate of the Lord: Do this in memory of me at Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 1st at 7:00 PM at Saint Peter Church. We will recall the Lord’s task of humble service as he washed the feet of the apostles and then shared with them the Meal of Salvation, which has become known to us as the Holy Eucharist.

Good Friday ~ The Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion In sorrow we call to mind the death of the Lord for our salvation. In silence we gather to ponder the great sacrifice of Christ our God. Stations of the Cross will be prayed on Friday, April 2nd in the Basilica at 12:10 PM and the Good Friday Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Peter Church at 7:00 PM.

Holy Saturday ~ Easter Vigil in the Holy Night By most ancient tradition, this is the night of keeping vigil for the Lord, in which, following the Gospel admonition, the faithful, carrying lighted lamps in their hands, should be like those looking for the Lord when he returns, so that at his coming he may find them awake and have them sit at his table. The Easter Vigil will be celebrated on Holy Saturday, April 3rd in the Basilica, beginning at 8:00 PM with the blessing of the new fire. Note: there is no 4:00 PM Mass on this day.

Note: Easter Sunday Morning Masses will take place at 8:30 AM at Saint Peter Church and 10:30 AM in the Basilica HAIDET’S auto glass FURNISHINGS • GIFTS Rt. 62 at Maple Ave. N.E.
