Appendix A:

Using the Keyboard

This appendix contains common keyboard functions for the Standard Operator Terminal.

Using the The following table lists the common keyboard actions that have Keyboard been provided for the Operator Terminal. Functions unique to a particular screen will be displayed on the status lines at the bottom of the display.

Moving Between To move between fields in a screen, use Tab. For example, to Fields in a Screen move from one field to the next in a definition screen, press Tab. To move from one item to the next in a summary, also press Tab.

Selecting Menu To display the Command summary, press F2. Options To select an option within a menu, press the highlighted letter. For example, to select the Override option in an object Command summary, press O (because O is highlighted). To select the Lock Trigger option, press C (because C is highlighted). You must also use the upper case for selecting menu items.

Keyboard Table The following table lists the common keystrokes you can use with the Operator Terminal.

Appendix B: Glossary

Alarm Message A message associated with an object that appears in a Critical Alarm Warning box at the Operator Workstation and in Critical and Follow-Up summaries when the object goes into alarm or changes state.

Archive PC File See PC File.

Archive Data Data stored in the archive data base or in PC files on the Operator Workstation (contrast with online data from the NCM).

Archive Data Base The master version of the data base (global or NCM) stored on the Operator Workstation (contrast with operational data base).

Attribute Field A text field in an Object Focus screen used for viewing an attribute value.

Change-of-State A report generated by an object when the object changes state. (COS) Report The COS report is sent to the report destinations specified during report/access group definition.

Communication A command that directs how the object interacts with the FMS Command (e.g., a Lock Reports command prevents reports about an object from being sent to destinations). Available in the Command Summary screen of an Object Summary. The following are Communication commands: Enable, Disable, Lock Reports, Unlock Reports, Lock Triggers, and Unlock Triggers.

Control Represents a control system as a software object. The CS object (CS) Object attributes are selected analog, binary, and multistate points in the controller. Used for AHU, UNT, VAV, and LCP controllers only.

Cursor The entry for entering, selecting, or placing information.

Default Report The Operator Workstation, printer, or PC file that is defined to Destination receive reports if the currently defined destination cannot receive the reports (e.g., if the currently defined destination goes offline).

Expanded ID The 24-character description of an object used in summaries to further identify the object.

Facility A combined network system of Operator Workstations, Network Management Control Units, Network Terminals, Operator Terminals, hardware System–FMS points, and software used to control and monitor a building or group of buildings.

Focus Screen A screen used to view attribute values. Used to view devices and objects.

Logging On The process you perform with the Logon screen by entering your password to gain access to the Operator Terminal.

Online Data Current data accessed from the NCM (contrast with archive data stored at the Operator Workstation).

Operation A command that directs the functioning of the object Command (e.g., a Start command might turn on a hardware device). Valid Operation commands depend on the type of object. The following are examples of Operation commands: On, Off, Start, Stop, Auto, and Alarm Limits. Available in the Command Summary screen of an Object Summary.

Operational Data The online version of the data base (global or NCM) currently Base being used by the network (contrast with archive data base stored at the Operator Workstation).

PC File A file on an Operator Workstation that is defined as the destination for reports. Can be a destination for all report types. Used to archive FMS data.

Report Destination An Operator Workstation, printer, or PC file that is defined to receive reports.

Report/Access Determines the destinations for each report type. Each system is Group assigned to one report/access group. When an object in the system generates a report, the report is sent to the destinations specified in the system’s report/access group. There can be up to 16 report/access groups.

Report Type A specific type of information. For example, a Critical report is a change-of-state that has been assigned the Critical report type. A Trend report is data about object attributes collected by the Trend feature. There are seven report types: Critical, Follow-Up, Status, History, Trend, Totalization, and Transaction.

Select To identify an item as the item you are going to perform an action on.

Summary A list of objects (or other items) associated by a common quality. For example, an Offline summary displays all objects that are offline in a selected system. The following are some of the available summaries: Alarm, Override, Devices, and Report/Access Groups.

System\Object The name that uniquely identifies an object. Consists of both the Name system name and object name.

System Summary A list of objects in a selected system. Includes object name and expanded ID.
