Those rules cover technical matters and therefore use certain technical terms which may be unfamiliar to attorneys and litigants. The following glossary is offered as an aid to the understanding of the rules. Typeface: A typeface is a complete set of characters of a particular and consistent design for the composition of text, and is also called a font. Typefaces often come in sets which usually include a bold and an italic version in addition to the basic design. Proportionally Spaced Typeface: Proportionally spaced type is designed so that the amount of horizontal space each letter occupies on a line of text is proportional to the design of each letter, the letter i, for example, being narrower than the letter w. More text of the same type size fits on a horizontal line of proportionally spaced type than a horizontal line of the same length of monospaced type. This sentence is set in Times New Roman, which is a proportionally spaced typeface. Monospaced Typeface: In a monospaced typeface, each letter occupies the same amount of space on a horizontal line of text. This sentence is set in Courier, which is a monospaced typeface. Point Size: A point is a unit of measurement used by printers equal to approximately 1/72 of an inch. -

Proceedings of the 7th WSEAS International Conference on Automation & Information, Cavtat, Croatia, June 13-15, 2006 (pp122-125) Recognising Cursive Arabic Text using a Speech Recognition System M S Khorsheed Abstract| This paper presents a system to recognise cursive Arabic typewritten text. The system is built using the Hidden Markov Model Toolkit (HTK) which is a portable toolkit for speech recognition system. The proposed system decomposes the page into its text lines and then extracts a set of simple statistical features from small overlapped windows running through each text line. The feature vector sequence is injected to the global model for training and recognition purposes. A data corpus which includes Arabic text from two computer- generated fonts is used to assess the performance of the proposed system. The Effect of Font Type on Screen Readability by People with Dyslexia LUZ RELLO and RICARDO BAEZA-YATES, Web Research Group, DTIC, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain Around 10% of the people have dyslexia, a neurological disability that impairs a person’s ability to read and write. There is evidence that the presentation of the text has a significant effect on a text’s accessibility for people with dyslexia. However, to the best of our knowledge, there are no experiments that objectively 15 measure the impact of the typeface (font) on screen reading performance. In this article, we present the first experiment that uses eye-tracking to measure the effect of typeface on reading speed. Using a mixed between-within subject design, 97 subjects (48 with dyslexia) read 12 texts with 12 different fonts. Font types have an impact on readability for people with and without dyslexia. For the tested fonts, sans serif , monospaced, and roman font styles significantly improved the reading performance over serif , proportional, and italic fonts. On the basis of our results, we recommend a set of more accessible fonts for people with and without dyslexia. I begin by raising a problem related to one traditionally found within some of the philosophical literature regarding moral egalitarianism: that of partiality and friendship, except that I raise the issue of partiality within the context of one’s close relationships. From here I propose a solution to the problem based on understanding a close relationship as one in which friends possess the attitude of openness to the development of the relationship. The remainder of the dissertation is concerned with elaborating upon and explaining this conception of friendship and its consequences. In the course of doing this I propose a theory of the self and how we relate to one another, consider the importance of the psychophysical self, explore the notion of mutual recognition, reflect on relationship’s end, and, finally, explore the connections between friendship and play. -

For business cards, it is probably best to choose a classic font. *Note: These fonts are not available in Canva, but are in the Microsoft Office Suite. Establish a visual hierarchy – Use fonts to separate different types of information and guide the reader - Use different fonts, sizes, weights (boldness), and even color - Example: Heading (Helvetica, SZ 22, Bold) Sub-heading (Helvetica, SZ 16, Italics) Body Text (Garamond, SZ 12, Regular) Captions (Garamond, SZ 10, Regular 3. Mix Serifs and Sans Serifs – This is one of the best ways to add visual interest to type. See in the above example how I combined Helvetica, a sans serif font, with Garamond, a serif font. 4. Create Contrast, Not Conflict: Fonts that are too dissimilar may not pair well together. Contrast is good, but fonts need a connecting element. Conflict Contrast 5. Use Fonts from the Same Family: These fonts were created to work together. For example, the fonts in the Arial or Courier families. 6. How To build a Newton Font on MacOS X by Paul Guyot <[email protected]> 16th April 2004 1 Introduction This How-To explains how to port a MacOS font to NewtonOS on MacOS X. Porting fonts rely on old Apple font tools and therefore on Classic. We (the DCL Group) are currently investigating a method to port fonts without relying on these tools, but some features of these old tools we need are apparently not available in MacOS X Font Tools. Important Note : Fonts are copyrightable and usually copyrighted. Please make sure that porting a font is compatible with the license you were granted on it. This tutorial supposes that you have basic knowledge of MacOS X, that you know what the Terminal is, but it does not require that you have a long experience with the tools involved. We may use terms that would require a definition or a clarification. Most unusual terms used here are defined in the Newton Glossary1. Do not hesitate to send me corrections or ask me for clarifications if required. This tutorial will guide through porting Gill Sans.
