Two great Summertime Mass Bay RRE for you to enjoy... First Annual ‘Railroad Day’ RRE Picnic at the Steaming Tender Restaurant 28 Depot Street, Palmer, Mass. Saturday, July 20, 2013 Join your fellow Railroad Enthusiasts at the Steaming Tender in Palmer for their first annual Railroad Day from 10 AM to 3 PM. Mass Bay RRE's Show Crew will be on hand to help Steaming Tender owners Blake and Robin LaMothe inaugurate what they hope will become an annual celebration of the railroad heritage of their city. Enjoy an afternoon of good , good food and good friends in the fellowship (or sisterhood) of fellow enthusiasts! Come to one of the best watching venues for a day of special rail activities: ! First, an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast, available from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, to start you off right (individual settlement). ! Then, CSX and New England Central freights, 's Limited and rumbling through. ! NECR engineer-demonstrated locomotive, a hand-propelled car on a special rail section ! Visit one of the few genuine H. H. Richardson stations extant, the restored Olmsted station park and grotto, and a Porter-built steam engine on display. ! At 10:00 AM: a special presentation by Robin LaMothe on the heritage of the station property and their future plans, followed by railroad videos shown in the ex-NHRR coach "mini-theater". ! Delicious restaurant dining room and takeout food available all day. ! Guided van tours at 12:00 Noon and 2:00 PM of the seven railroads of Palmer with local rail historian Larry Lowenthal ($10 pp). CapeFLYER Adventure to Hyannis Saturday, August 17, 2013 Join us for Mass Bay RRE’s group tour aboard the new summer weekend train service to . We will leave Boston South Station at 8:00 AM and Braintree at 8:18 AM for a direct run to Hyannis via Middleboro, Buzzards Bay, and Sandwich, including crossing the historic 791-foot-long Cape Cod Canal lift bridge. Upon arrival at Hyannis at 10:18 AM a number of interesting options are available: a one hour harbor cruise, the Cape Cod maritime museum, the JFK presidential yacht Seneca museum, a town motor trolley tour, a duck cruise, and plenty of time to eat at one of numerous restaurants (there is also snack bar service on the CapeFLYER). For the more adventurous, perhaps the high-speed to for three hours on the island. OR . . . take the Cape Cod Central Railroad "Scenic Train" back to West Barnstable for its Village Festival and Depot Museum open house with scale live steam trains, baggage car model railroad, and more, then returning to Hyannis with several hours available before departure of the Cape Flyer for Boston at 6:30 PM, with South Station arrival at 8:45 PM.
