The Boys of Summer Hop Aboard CapeFLYER Invite Fans to Swing into Father’s Day Weekend Contact: Sean Gonsalves, Regan Communications (508) 420‐5566 ext. 118 (w) 617‐308‐8393 (c) [email protected] HYANNIS, MA – For fans of the Cape Cod Baseball League and passengers aboard the CapeFLYER, Father’s Day weekend this year promises to be a fun, family‐friendly experience. On June 18 ‐ the Saturday before Father’s Day ‐ the morning train from South Station in Boston will make a special stop in Wareham to pick up the Wareham Gatemen. The Gatemen will ride the CapeFLYER into the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) Transportation Center in Hyannis where the West Division team will come face‐to‐face with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, their afternoon opponent. But before the Gatemen and Harbor Hawks settle the score on the diamond, the boys of Cape Cod summer will mix it up and mingle with fans, followers, and local Little Leaguers during an open‐to‐the‐ public reception at the transportation center. “A train, hot dogs, peanuts, the country’s top college baseball players, and Father’s Day ‐ I can’t think of another place I’d want to be,” said Cape Cod Baseball League Commissioner Paul Galop, adding that any Little League player in uniform will be able to ride the train into Hyannis for free. With a chance to shake hands or get an autograph from a Cape Leaguer, plus a special appearance of the Boston Red Sox 2004 and 2007 World Series trophy, a quintessential Cape Cod scrapbook moment is there to be had. “With 1 out of 6 players in Major League Baseball having come through the Cape League – Red Sox third‐ basemen Travis Shaw among them,” Galop said, “there’s no doubt more than a few will leave there with a unique memory of a future star and a fabulous start to Father’s Day weekend.” CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir said it makes sense for the CCRTA to play host for reasons that go far beyond the fact that Cahir himself once played in the Cape League. “I know first‐hand how memorable the Cape League experience is for fans and players. To offer a free family experience in a centrally‐located place on Father’s Day weekend is a true public service,” Cahir said. “It’s also a great way to kick‐off the summer season, which is vital to the regional economy.” The CapeFLYER will offer baseball‐themed food and beverages on the ride into Hyannis and is scheduled to arrive at the transportation center at 10:20am. A 30‐minute reception will follow before the players leave for nearby McKeon Field to warm‐up for their 2pm game. Fans will also be invited to tour the CCBL Hall of Fame on Main Street before the game begins. And to end Father’s Day weekend with smiling faces – and a few messy ones – there will be a pie‐eating contest sponsored by the Centerville Pie Company prior to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks game on Sunday, June 19.
