General Parish news : The Parks team has been busy planting replacement flowering cherry trees on People’s Park, removing three dangerous sycamores in the woodland below St Ewolds Residential Home, trimming up trees in West’s Centre and working to reinstate the grass area at Parade Gardens following removal of the ice rink, with all costs regarding the latter being passed to the organisers of the ice rink. Work has started on laying the new road and paved surface in Robin Place and our thanks go to all residents and businesses in the area for possible disruption caused. Queries regarding this should be directed to Buildings and Roads Manager Robert Gilmore on 07797 722882. Regular park users may have noticed more people exercising in the main parks recently. Each household that registered to join the scheme was provided with a blue box to collect glass jars and bottles, and we also took the opportunity to include the collection of household batteries, with the recycling manager at Transport and Technical Services providing pink plastic bags for this purpose. Residents were provided with the following information: • Please rinse and place your glass in the blue box provided (any other box will not be accepted into the scheme). • Do not include light bulbs, Pyrex or window glass • Do not overfill the box • Place your sealed battery bag on top of your glass (no loose batteries). Rouge Bouillon School had a visit from the school photographer on 3rd February in order to take photos of all the pupils and also the choir, and he will return in March to take photos of the sports teams. Gold Heart Day, when all of Rouge Bouillon’s students paid £1 to dress in non-uniform and get a badge from the charity Variety, took place on 10th February. This has happened annually for a long time now and this year’s design featured the Star Wars characters R2-D2 and C-3PO, which pleased many pupils. The most exciting February event was the Key Stage 2 pupils’ school disco, which took place on 24th February. All the hot songs were played for this popular event which many students love and look forward to. f
