Blocking with Buntal Mats (suitable for beginners)

The springy and pliable fibres of straw buntal mats means they are quickly and easily blocked! Create a fashionable boater or other blocked hat of your choice and learn valuable techniques to finish your piece neatly and professionally!

***Silk Abaca Halos & Headbands! 1 December***

Silk Abaca Braid and Knot Headbands (suitable for beginners)

Stuck for Christmas gifts??? Make up a beautiful on trend strawcloth headband your friends and family will love! Or how about one for yourself ;) This abaca fabric has a wonderful silky sheen and comes in a wide range of jewel bright colours. Learn great tips and tricks for handling this materials plus headband construction basics. A fun and easy class :)

Feather Basics: Cutting, Curling, Dying, Making Trims (suitable for beginners)

Get to grips with millinery’s most versatile and best loved decoration, feathers. We will cover feather types, cutting, curling and shaping, introduction to dying, how to make a feather mount or trim ready to attach to a hat or headband, and much more!

Class available 10am-4pm Saturday 1 February 2020. Cost $180 per student (or $320 for both days).

Make a Feather Headpiece, Floating Feathers (suitable for beginners)

Use the skills you learned on Saturday to create a spectacular headpiece! Or wing it with a simpler approach if you’re just here for the day. Learn how to wire individual feathers so that they ‘float’ over your hat or headpiece!

***Everything Felt! 8/9 February***

Classic Blocked Felt Hat (suitable for beginners)

Learn essential tips and techniques on how to work with this classic millinery material. Block a one piece design on a traditional wooden hat block(s), or you can attempt a two piece design if you’re coming both days. Boaters, cloches, berets and buttons… there are many options! Choose between luxurious fur felt, or practical wool. We will look at different stiffening techniques for both. Trim with traditional petersham ribbon. All set for Autumn racing!

Sculpted Felt, Felt Trims and Introduction to Inset Work! (suitable for beginners)

Discover the delights of hand forming and sculpting pliable millinery felts into creative organic designs! Discover a variety of design ideas and techniques for using your leftover felt pieces to create stunning trims. Finish with a demonstration of felt inset work, or, try yourself if time permits!

***Everything Leather! 22/23 February***

Blocking and Sculpting Leather (suitable for beginners)

Learn all the basics of how to block leather over a hatblock with a suitable foundation and lining and get a flawless finish. We will also create a sculpted piece, free shaping the leather into beautiful folds and pleats over a base.

Make A Headpiece with Leather Feathers or Trims! (suitable for beginners)

Create some amazing trims… feathers and leaves of leather you can twist and shape! Add these to a hat (if you came on Saturday!) and/or arrange them on a headband for an instant FOTF piece you will love! Veiling optional!

Heavenly Lace Headbands

In this creative one day workshop, make your own high fashion headband or lace sculpture using lace motifs and possibly some crystals.

Stiffened Lace Hats

My trademark technique! Experiment with pattern using this beautiful material. Recreate the stiffened guipure lace hats of the fifties, using contemporary techniques. Great for races, bridal or evening.
