Celebrating ’s 50th anniversary, Z’s 45th anniversary, and ’s 20th anniversary with a new design that represents a “return to roots” for the ChogokinⓇ brand! SOUL OF CHOGOKIN GX-70 D.C. ACTION FIGURE

Bandai Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Masaru Kawaguchi, Head Office: Taito-ku, Tokyo) is releasing Soul of Chogokin GX-70 Mazinger Z D.C. (“Dynamic Classic”) Action Figure on January 28th (Sat), 2017 in and 21 other countries (JPY 14,040 including 8% consumption tax/JPY 13,000 not inlcuding tax). This release marks a triple anniversary: the 50th anniversary of the professional debut of cartoonist Go Nagai, creator of the hit TV show Mazinger Z; the 45th anniversary of the show’s premier; and the 20th anniversary of the Soul of Chogokin brand. The newly redesigned action figure is based on depictions of Mazinger Z from the original TV show and represents a return to roots for the robot which originated the ChogokinⓇ brand. A forerunner of the super robot anime genre, Mazinger Z has delighted generations of fans, from its premier 45 years ago right up until the present day. The first Chogokin Mazinger Z robot action figure, released in 1974, originated the Chogokin brand and was one of the biggest hits in ’s history up to that time. The new Soul of Chogokin GX-70 Mazinger Z D.C. Action Figure is the 70th installment in the GX series. It commemorates the 20th anniversary of the release of the Soul of Chogokin GX-01 Mazinger Z Action Figure, in 1997, which originated the Soul of Chogokin brand, targeted at grown-ups who had played with the original Chogokin action figures as children. This newest action figure, based on depictions of Mazinger Z from the original TV show, represents a reappraisal of the Chogokin brand. This return to roots is a genuine first in the history of the Soul of Chogokin Mazinger Z series.

Comment by Go Nagai, creator of Mazinger Z I am touched that Mazinger Z and have won so many loyal fans over the past 40 years, some of who, if they were children when I began drawing these characters, must now be in their 50s or even 60s. They have helped introduce younger generations to my work, allowing me the privilege of returning to my characters again and again. Above all, it is the strength of the characters that has made that possible. I sincerely hope that people will continue to take an interest in them.
