Going Back in History to 1968 I remember Bobby Kennedy announcing his run for president back on March 16, 1968. A few weeks later on April 4th, Rev. Martin L. King Jr. was assassinated. The violence in the U.S. continued, as Bobby Kennedy was gunned-down following his California primary vic- tory over Gene McCarthy. He died on June 5th, less than 24-hours after being assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan. It was a horrible time in America’s life! The ’60s started off with so much promise and hope but ended in a sea of violence. Today, America is in a tough spot. We are bitterly divided, living in separate ideological corners. We think unfavorably of those we disagree with on issues. Once again, anger threatens America’s future. Negativity is our common bond today. It should be hope and unity; it should be civility and dialog. It’s not! We need a Bobby Kennedy so badly today! She’s Still Not Over Losing in ’16 Apparently, Hillary Clinton is still not over the 2016 election. Recently, during a commencement speech (Continued on Page 10)

This year’s theme was “A Legacy of Faith, Hope, and Love” pay- ing tribute to the mothers and grandmothers of the community. This year’s Gala honored five women in the community, Lina Capogreco, Lucy Fiandaca, Maryann Gravallese, Connie Sullivan, and Rose Tacelli. As Joe Ruggiero stated, “It is a day and age when it seems values are lost and examples of goodness are hard to come by, we are proud to pause and honor five extraordinary women who represent the very best of East Boston.” Joe Zirpolo added, “We are honored to honor them for their life-long witness of what it means to be from Eastie.”
