Issued by: River Forecast Centre, Flow Forecasting Flood Warning for North Central Alberta A Flood Warning has been issued for the following rivers in the North Saskatchewan River Basin: • North Saskatchewan River downstream of the Bighorn Dam (including the Town of Drayton Valley and the City of Edmonton) • Nordegg River and other tributaries of the North Saskatchewan River upstream of Lodgepole
Current forecasts indicate that the North Saskatchewan River at Edmonton will reach bankfull late Sunday night or early Monday morning, with water levels increasing 4.6 to 5.1 metres from 8:00 AM June 19, and the broad peak of high water is expected to last into Monday afternoon before starting to drop. The releases from the Bighorn and Brazeau Dams on the North Saskatchewan River have not changed greatly. Most of the increase in flow on the North Saskatchewan is due to flows on the Ram, Clearwater and Nordegg Rivers, which join the North Saskatchewan downstream of the dams. The flow at Rocky Mountain House peaked at 2276 m3/s at 8:30 PM Saturday, and is down to 2006 m3/s as of 5:00 AM Sunday. Downstream tributaries such as the Baptiste and Nordegg Rivers are still rising.
Flood Warning Update for Alberta A Flood Warning remains in effect for the following streams and rivers and their tributaries: In the North Saskatchewan River Basin: • Ram River In the Bow River Basin: • Clearwater River • Bow River (including the City of Calgary) In the Red Deer River Basin: • Fish Creek (including Priddis and Calgary) • Red Deer River (including the Cities of • Jumpingpound Creek Red Deer and Drumheller) • Elbow River upstream and downstream of the • James River Glenmore Dam (including the City of • Raven River Calgary) • Little Red Deer River Current forecasts for the City of Red Deer are that peak flows will be between 1800 and 2000 m3/s and will crest Monday morning. At Drumheller, peak flows will be in the same range as those at Red Deer, cresting late Monday night.
Alberta Environment is monitoring river levels very closely.
