Flood Warning Issued at: 2:50 PM, June 18, 2005

Issued by: River Forecast Centre, Flow Forecasting Flood Warning for Southern Alberta A Flood Warning has been issued for the following river and it’s tributaries in the Elbow River Basin: • Elbow River downstream of the Glenmore Dam (including the City of Calgary)

The entire Elbow River is now under Flood Warning. The Elbow River at Bragg Creek peaked early June 18 at similar values recorded last week. However, further downstream, values into Glenmore Reservoir are considerably higher than last week and it is anticipated that the Reservoir will begin to spill at 5 pm tonight. The gauge at Sarcee Bridge is not operating correctly. Once the reservoir begins to spill, the river downstream of the dam is expected to be in flood.

Issued by: River Forecast Centre, Flow Forecasting A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the following streams and their tributaries in the Red Deer, Bow, Oldman, and South Saskatchewan River basins: • Nordegg River • Brazeau River upstream of the Brazeau Dam • North Saskatchewan River downstream of the Bighorn Dam (including the Towns of Rocky Mountain House, Drayton Valley and the City of Edmonton) • Oldman River DOWNSTREAM of Oldman Dam (including the City of Lethbridge)

As of 2:30 PM June 18th, releases from Dickson Dam were 580 m3/s, which is below bankfull downstream.

A major storm system continues to hit the province. Additional amount of 30 to 60 mm of precipitation are expected today in foothill and mountain areas north of Calgary today. All streams originating in and along southern mountains and foothills areas have responded rapidly to precipitation. These areas are saturated due to the heavy precipitation recorded in the past two weeks and water levels remain high in many areas. Alberta Environment is monitoring river levels very closely and is in close contact with Environment Canada Weather Services.

This advisory will be updated as the situation changes.

------A High Streamflow Advisory means that stream levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly and no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Anyone situated close to the streams affected (campers, fishermen, boaters and the general public) is advised to be cautious of the rising levels. ------A Flood Watch means that stream levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bank full. Flooding of areas adjacent to these streams may occur. Anyone situated close to the streams is advised to take appropriate precautionary measures. ------A Flood Warning means that rising river levels will result in flooding of areas adjacent to the streams affected. Anyone situated close to the river should take appropriate measures to avoid flood damage
