TECHNIQUE • STRENGTH • DISCIPLINE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Children’s Division Toddlers (TTT) Toddlers explore and develop their basic motor skills and coordination, while cultivating rythmic awareness and use of imagination with their participating adult. This class prepares them to move to the next level, Creative Movement. 18 months to 3½ yrs. old, with adult participation Creative Movement (CM) Students continue to explore movement with increasing complexity and awareness of motor skills, while beginning to incorporate basic steps and terminology. 3½ to 5 years old. Pre-Ballet (Pre) This is an introductory ballet class for students with no previous ballet or experience. Students begin learning the fundamentals and terminology of . This class emphasizes proper body placement and musicality. Age 6 and older Beginning Ballet I, II, & III (BBI, BBII, BBIII) This class is for students with at least 1 year of pre-ballet training. Students will expand work in intensity and duration and will be introduced to beginning center work. The beginning ballet syllabus spans 3 consecutive skill levels. Age 6 and older Student Division Intro To Ballet (Intro) This class is a beginning ballet class for students with no prior training ages 9-14. Students learn basic barre, center work and terminology in preparation for Level 1. Ages 9-14 Levels 1-8 A comprehensive curriculum that challenges students to strengthen technique through a progressive syllabus. Students matriculate to the next level at an individual pace as the skill set of each leveled syllabus is attained. It is not uncommon to spend more than one year in a level. Boys Ballet Boys Ballet Class is a supplement to the leveled ballet classes. These special classes focus on jumps, turns, athleticism, and the strength building necessary for the male dancer.

Summerbella Leotards is the official supplier for the Sacramento Ballet. The Signature Line leotard will be used in the Annual School Demonstration and every Intro and Level 1-8 student will be required to have one in their level color in order to participate in the Demonstration General Dress Code Guidelines Girls: Leotards: Each Level has a specific color. Leotards may be camisole, tank, or 3/4 sleeve. They may not have crisscrossed back straps, decorations, attached , shirring, or contrasting colors or trim, lace or mesh, or halter style. : Pink full footed tights (convertible tights are acceptable). No under garments (including underwear). Ballet : Pink ballet shoes with sewn elastic (leather shoes are preferred to strengthen feet). Drawstrings must be tucked in. Either split or full sole is acceptable. ( style shoes are not acceptable). Hair: Hair should be pulled away from the face and neck in a high or low bun. Short hair may be pinned back from the face. No swinging ponytails, moderate small bows or flowers may be worn. Proper hair is an important part of etiquette. For hair bun instructions visit The Schools Facebook page and the “how to” video. Pointe Shoes: All shoes must have sewn ribbons, and any strings or torn material hanging off the tips must be removed. Jewelry: No Jewelry except post earrings. Warm Up Clothes: No warm up clothes or skirts can be worn in ballet class. Ballet Skirts: Skirts may be worn in rehearsal or repertoire class for Level 4-8. Stretch (Level 2-8): Fitted fitness or dance . (No boxer or pajama pants, sweat , sweat or loose fitting clothing). Student Division Boys (Intro to Level 1-8) Pants/Tights: Black full or capri length tights, boys in Intro & Level 1-8 classes may not wear cycling or athletic shorts. : Plain white t-shirt (Level 3-7 must have shirts tucked in). Ballet Shoes: Black ballet shoes with sewn elastics (leather shoes are encouraged to strengthen feet). Either split or full sole is acceptable. : White socks Additional Disciplines (Tap/Lyrical/Musical Theatre) Free dress leotard, may wear fitted shorts or jazz pants. Hair may be worn in a ponytail with instructor permission. Street Clothes Etiquette Students must enter and exit the building with street shoes and a cover up over leotard and tights. Borrow Box A “Borrow Box” of shoes is available but all shoes need to be returned at the end of class. Donations to the “Borrow Box” are greatly appreciated! Students will grow as dancers while training under professionals from the renowned School of the Sacramento Ballet, and guest Artists from the Sacramento performing arts community. Ballet technique and artistry will be stressed at all levels with strength and stretching classes to enhance physical performance. In the afternoons, students explore additional dance genres, broadening their artistic development and culminating in a performance at the end of the three-week session. Students will participate in 5-7 classes per day in a variety of dance genres. PLEASE NOTE ALL CLASSES AND TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Classes will include: Ballet Technique, Variations, , Boys Class, Stretch, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, Russian , and Acting Workshop. • Dates & Times Summer Workshop 2014 runs June 9 - June 27, Monday through Friday, 9:00AM-3:00PM. Drop off and pick up times are 8:45AM and 3:00PM. **No late pick up or early drop off will be permitted as there is no one to supervise children outside of these hours. • Requirements Dancers must be between the ages of 8 and 13, with prior dance experience. Dancers will be placed in levels according to their age and abilities. Placement classes will occur the first day of instruction.All dancers are encouraged to participate in the demonstration performance June 26, 2014. • Supplies Dancers are required to bring a healthy lunch, snacks, and water daily. Lunch is not provided. Light snacks will be made available for purchase on site. Dress code: female dancers are required to wear solid colored leotards and pink tights for all classes. “Convertible” tights are recommended for transition to Modern and Jazz classes. Boys must wear white T-shirts and black bottoms. Pink ballet are required for girls, black for boys. Jazz shoes are required for all participants. Jazz shoes can be used for Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Russian Character Dance classes. No warm-up apparel will be allowed during classes. Optional supplies may include: yoga mat, “foot undies” for Modern class, knee pads for Hip Hop, character and shoes for Russian Character Dance class, Tap shoes for Tap. (All students will need a plain black leotard for the demonstration) • Location Summer Workshop 2014 will be held at Sierra 2 Dance Studios 2791 24th Street in Sacramento. Please drop off children at 8:45AM and pick them up by 3:00PM. **No late pick up or early drop off will be permitted as there is no one to supervise children outside of these hours. Students picked up late will be charged $5 for every 5 minutes over pick up time. • Demonstration The summer workshop demonstration will be held Thursday evening June 26, from 7:00PM-8:30PM at the Sacramento Ballet Studios 1631 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. All Summer Workshop 2013 participants are expected to participate. • 2013 Tuition Space is limited, enrollment will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Students are allowed to participate in the full three weeks or weeks 2&3. Tuition for the full three weeks is $850, tuition for weeks 2&3 is $725. All students must include a $40 enrollment processing fee with their application. Taught by a world class faculty, Summer Intensive 2014 is a total immersion program integrating strong ballet techniques, pointe work, variations, with current contemporary dance forms.

Classes will include: Ballet Technique, Pointe, Men’s Classes, Variations, Musical Theater, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Yoga, Pilates, Injury Prevention. Dates & Times • Summer Intensive 2014 is a two or three-week program, June 9 to June 27. Students will participate in 5 to 7 classes per day. Monday through Friday classes will be from 9:00am to 5:30pm. All Saturday classes will meet from 9:00am to 3:00pm. PLEASE NOTE: ALL CLASSES and TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Audition Class • An audition class is mandatory to attend Summer Intensive 2014. Audition classes will be held on Sunday, March 9. The class for students 11 to 13 will be held from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, the class for students 14 and older will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. There will be pointe work at the end of both classes. Please arrive to register 30 minutes before each class begins. There is a $20 audition fee which will be credited to the enrollment processing fee. Please bring a head shot & photo in 1st arabesque. Requirements • Dancers must be at least 11 years of age by audition class and at the intermediate or advanced level.

Location • Summer Intensive 2014 will be held at The Sacramento Ballet Studios: 1631 K Street • Sacramento, CA 95814 **No late pick up permitted as there is no one to supervise children. (Host family housing available)

Levels • The program directors will place the students in an appropriate level where they will gain the most experience. Evaluations will also be made on each students ability to participate on pointe. Dancer’s level and first day schedule will be e-mailed to first week participants by Friday, June 6 and for second week participants by Friday, June 13. Students will continue to be evaluated for proper level placement through the first two days of classes.

Demonstration • Two demonstrations will be held this year. A mini demonstration will be held on Friday, June 20. There will also be a full demonstration on Friday, June 27. Times will be announced during the intensive. Each student will be allowed two complimentary tickets. 2014 Tuition • Since space is limited, enrollment will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants must include a $40 enrollment processing fee with their application. Students registering before April 15 will be eligible for the early registration price. Early registration by April 15, 2014 guarantees a space. The annual registration fee is $60.00 per child and is non-refundable. ($50.00 for students registering after February 1st).

Note: SEMESTER and MONTHLY payment schedules require equal payments for the program. It is an installment of the entire tuition amount (8 equal payments) and does not reflect the number of classes within the allotted period of time. Semester payments may only be made in Spring if they were made in Fall. OPEN DIVISION TUITION Student Open Classes The student open division allows students to take a drop in class for all leveled classes (Intro–Level 8) after evaluation by the School Principal and based on availability. This includes all leveled technique classes, pointe*, tap, lyrical and contemporary. All normal drop in rates apply, students do not appear in the Annual Dance Demonstration. * A pointe class may only be taken following a ballet technique class and with approval by the School Principal DROP IN RATE: (per class) 45 minutes – 1.25 hour class $20.00 1.5 hours to 2 hours $22.00 2.25 hours and up $24.00

Teen/Adult Open The School of the Sacramento Ballet’s Teen/Adult Open Division classes are for students age 14 to adult. Students use artistic expression along with a healthy dose of exercise for both the mind and body to promote better fitness and focus in their day to day lives. We offer each class at a drop in rate to accommodate busy schedules - only pay for the classes you attend.

Beginning/Intermediate Adult Ballet: This class is for the adult student with little to no experience or for those who are returning to ballet.

Intermediate/Advanced Adult Ballet: A rigorous ballet class designed for experienced non-professional dancers
