Appearance and Required Attire for Dance Classes Sum12

Dance Class Appearance:

All students should be well groomed and maintain excellent hygiene. Students are expected to look their best for every class. Women with long hair are to have hair pulled back in a neat bun; hair should be slicked back or braided into a bun and secured with a hair net and bobby pins. Short hair should be pulled away from face. A simple thin may be used to pull bangs back. No jewelry is to be worn during class. The use of light street make-up is encouraged for women (lipstick, blush and mascara).

Required Attire for ALL Dance Classes:

Dance and Movement 1 and 2 / Theater Dance/ Character in Motion –Women Black Black or tan – “convertible” is best for footed/footless use Proper or supportive if needed (multiple should not be visible) “Circle character ” (knee length, full cut) Ladies T- or single strap character with minimum 2 1/2 inch heel* (Black or tan; to match tights. need dance rubber and should be braced)

*by 3rd or 4th semester, ladies may be required to have a set of black character shoes/tights AND Tan (flesh colored) shoes/tights

Dance and Movement 1 and 2 / Theater Dance/ Character in Motion – Men Fitted black or white tank or T- Jazz pants or similar form fitting pant (no sweats) Dance (supportive undergarment) Black A black hard-soled character shoe (shoes need dance rubber on sole)

Ballet – Women Black leotard Black or pink dance tights (full length to be worn inside shoe/; “convertible” is best for footed/footless use ) Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) (black or pink to match tights),

Ballet – Men Fitted black or white tank top or T-shirt without a logo Men’s black dance tights (elastic is recommended to keep tights in proper placement) (supportive undergarment) Black Ballet slippers

Jazz – Women Black leotard Tights (black or flesh colored to match shoe; “convertible” is best for footed/footless use), OR form fitting legging/ jazz pant Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) Soft Black Jazz oxford or Jazz sneaker and Character shoes (heels from D&M/Theater Dance)

Jazz - Men Fitted black tank top or T-shirt without a logo Black Jazz pants or similar form fitting pant (no sweats). Dance belt (supportive undergarment) Soft Black Jazz oxford or Jazz sneaker and Character shoes (hard shoes from D&M/Theater Dance) Black socks

Tap – Women Black leotard Tights (black or tan/flesh colored to match shoe), or form fitting legging/ jazz pant Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) Ladies tap shoe with a minimum 2 ∏ inch heel* (black or tan; to match tights).

*Flat tap shoes are for specialty styles only. Tap shoes need dance rubber and should be braced

Tap - Men Fitted black tank top or T-shirt without a logo Jazz pants or similar form fitting pant Dance belt Black socks Men’s tap shoe (tap shoes need dance rubber on sole)

Core Techniques – Women Black leotard Black footless tights or Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) Ballet slippers, jazz shoes, dance paws/footies are ALL needed (black socks may be worn for special exercises)

Modern – Men Fitted black tank top , T-shirt without a logo or unitard Black Jazz pants or similar form fitting pant (no sweats) Dance belt (supportive undergarment) Flesh colored dance paws/footies or bare feet (black socks may be worn for special exercises)

Hip Hop– Women** AND Men Dark colored (black, grey and navy) loose fitting layers over body conscience dancewear or that allow for movement **Women may wear their hair down for this class only. Please secure any long layers so your eyes can be seen.

Partnering/Contemporary – Women Black Leotard Loosely fitted black long sleeve T-shirt without a logo Form fitting legging Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) Ballet slippers, jazz shoes, dance paws/footies are ALL needed (black socks may be worn for special exercises)

Partnering/Contemporary- Men Loosely fitted black cotton long sleeve T-shirt without a logo Black Jazz pants/legging or similar form fitting pant (no sweats). Dance belt (supportive undergarment) Ballet slippers, jazz shoes, dance paws/footies are ALL needed (black socks may be worn for special exercises)

Dance Theater Project/Dance Company/** – Women Black Leotard Black footless tights Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) Ballet slippers, jazz shoes, character shoes, tap shoes, sneakers and dance paws/footies are ALL needed

Dance Theater Project/Dance Company/Choreography**– Men Fitted black tank top or T-shirt without a logo Black Jazz pants/legging or similar form fitting pant (no sweats). Dance belt (supportive undergarment) Ballet slippers, jazz shoes, character shoes, tap shoes, sneakers and dance paws/footies are ALL needed

***Dancers may bring dark colored (black, grey and navy) loose fitting layers to wear over dancewear when approved by instructor for seated lesson plans or non-movement exercises.

Dance Audition Techniques and Combos – Women* Black Leotard Tights (black or flesh colored to match shoe; “convertible” is best for footed/footless use), OR form fitting legging/ jazz pant Proper bra or supportive undergarment if needed (multiple straps should not be visible) Ballet slippers, jazz shoes, character shoes, tap shoes, sneakers and dance paws/footies are ALL needed

*Students will be instructed by the teacher to wear audition attire to some classes and may be asked to provide additional dance wear in the style of a particular combination or audition exercise.
