The School of Theatrical Dance DRESS FOR DANCE GUIDE 2017-2018

Dear Parents and Students, We look forward to another wonderful year of dance enrichment! As in any activity, proper preparation leads to a more successful experience. Please plan ahead, and have your uniform and supplies in order.

Dance Bag We ask that all students have a designated dance bag for all classes. Any sports style nylon zip or drawstring bag will do. This not only helps better prepare students for class, but reduces the likelihood for items to get lost. This bag should contain their dance shoes, and several other necessary items that are found to be useful to students of all ages. All items listed should remain in the dance bag year round. Washable items should be cleaned daily and replaced.

Child-Youth Dance Bag : 1- All dance shoes that currently fit with their name inside each shoe. 2- Class uniform for the day, if you plan to change at the studio. 3- Hair supplies. A comb and/or a brush, Ponytail holders, Barrettes and bobby pins. 4-A dance or a similar form fitting sweater, and a spare pair of leggings. 5-An old pair of socks

Teen-Adult Dance Bag : All dance shoes that currently fit with their name inside each shoe. Personal hygiene products. All hair accessories required to keep hair up and off the face and neck (ponytail holders, barrettes, bobby pins, hair pins and hair nets). A dance sweater and/or sweater tights. An old pair of socks. Band-aids, foot tape, small sewing kit with scissors. A Disposable Ice Pack

Proper Hair Style: To allow for correction of head, neck, and shoulder alignment, clarity of focus, and to eliminate distraction when working on turns, hair must be out of the way. Dance is an expressive as well as physical art, and the face needs to be open and animated. Acceptable styles are those pulled up and away from the face in a clip, chignon (bun), or french braid.

Unsuitable Attire We ask that students avoid wearing sweats and baggy clothes which obscure the body and hinder vital alignment correction. Older students should consult the instructor if they feel feel leg warmers are needed, as in the case of an over-worked muscle.
