2019-2020 Dance Dimensions Dress Code Coordinating Revolution Dancewear 2019-2020 Dance Dimensions Dress Code Coordinating Revolution Dancewear NEW selection with various styles and colors! Thank you in advance for abiding by our dress code. Dance is a discipline, and like any sport participants must dress in proper gear. In order to participate in classes it is required that students arrive in the proper dance attire, with appropriate hair style, and necessary shoes. Students ages 3-6 (Early Childhood Program/ Primary Ballet/ Tap Basics) are to wear the required Revolution Dancewear uniforms for class. This keeps the students focused on their dancing and not distracted by various outfits. For dancers ages 7 and up we recommend and prefer that you purchase all necessary dance attire through us. Street clothes are not permitted. Teachers need to be able to see that the student’s alignment is correct; therefore for the dancer’s safety the teacher has the authority to have the student watch class if they are not dressed appropriately. Early Childhood Program: ages 3-4 required items: Hair: please pull back hair away from the face in a ponytail, braids, or bun. Short hair should be secured back from the face with hair clips. Tights: footed Revolution prima pink Note: off brands of tights come in odd colors and snag/ run easily.) * No underwear should be worn. They stick out or bunch. Tights have a liner to replace underwear. Nude leotards are also a great replacement for undergarments. They are needed for the recital. Leotard Colors: pink or black Style Leotard: Cap Sleeve Leotards work best such as: Rhinestone Crisscross Back Leotard, Basic Short Sleeve, and Seamless Short Sleeve Shoes: Stretch Split Sole Ballet Slippers *Please, no pull sole ballet shoes or shoes with drawstrings. Skirt: Pull-on Skirt (black or pink) Q: What’s it going to cost for this outfit? Mini Movers is to have stretch jazz boot (girls slip on/ boys tie) Q: What’s it going to cost for the tap basic outfit? A: about $70 and up for leotard, tights, skirt & shoes from Revolution Q: What’s it going to cost for the mini movers jazz outfit? A: about $81 and up for biketard, tights & shoes from Revolution Ballet Classes: (ages 7 and up) Hair: Buns are required for level 1B ballet and up. Short hair should be secured back from the face with hair clips. Please no pony-tails. Tights: Revolution Prima Pink Footed or Convertible (optional- hole in bottom for ages 8 and up) *Revolution Dancewear prima pink tights are required for all ballet classes. (Off brands of tights come in odd colors and snag/ run easily.) * No underwear should be worn. They stick out or bunch. Tights have a liner to replace underwear. Shoes: Revolution Stretch Ballet Slippers *Please, no full sole ballet shoes. Leotards: Students may wear any solid color dance leotard. The cap sleeve, tank, or strappy back leotards are best for youth age dancers. *Optional-Nude Camisole Leotard: great in place of undergarments! Wrap Skirt- black or complementary color to match leotard; *black action shorts permitted in Ballet 3 and up Q: What’s it going to cost for a ballet outfit? A: Youth $66 and up/ adult $74 and up depending upon selection from Revolution Jazz Classes: Hair: please pull back hair from face in a ponytail, braids, or bun. Short hair should be secured back from the face with hair clips. Leotards: Students may wear any solid color dance leotard. *Optional-Nude Camisole Leotard: great in place of undergarments! Any solid color leotard is fine. No extra decorations please. *Leotards should fully cover torso (modesty please). A one piece biketard (leotard and shorts in 1) is a price saving option. Black Stretch Jazz Boot is best. Jazz Bottoms- solid black only please. Options: boy shorts (great all year), leggings (great chilly nights), bootcut pants *Tights (prima pink or tan) are recommended to be worn under pants. Optional- Nude Camisole Leotard: great in place of undergarments. *Street clothes, such as sweat pants, are not permitted. Q: What’s it going to cost for a jazz outfit? A: adult sizes $78 and up depending upon selection from Revolution Tap Classes: Hair- should be pulled back from face in a ponytail, braids, or bun. Short hair should be secured back from the face with hair clips. Leotards: Students may wear any solid color dance leotard. Pink, navy, hunter green, purple, black, light blue, burgundy and more are available through Revolution dancewear & Theatricals. *Optional- Nude Camisole Leotard: great in place of undergarments! Shoes: Black Oxford Tap Shoe (no shiny patent leather shoes please) For beginner-intermediate level Revolution’s: Intro JT shoe is requested. Students taking multiple tap classes or working at the intermediate/adv. Level should upgrade to the premium tap shoe Solid Black Jazz Shorts/Pants Socks or Tights Optional- Footed or Convertible (hole in bottom) Q: What’s it going to cost for a tap outfit? A: adult sizes $70 and up depending upon selection from Revolution Modern Classes: Hair should be pulled back from face in a ponytail, braids, or bun. Tights: Modern dancers need footless tights. Contemporary socks may be purchased through the studio. Outfit please follow jazz list. Hip Hop Classes: Outfit: Hip Hop dancers are to dress in comfortable clothes suitable for moving. Girls are to wear a leotard or sports bra under tops. Shoes: Hip Hop is to wear jazz sneakers (available through Revolution Dancewear). Cost for shoes: $50 *Hip hop dancers no street shoes are allowed in the studio. Please do not travel to and from class in the jazz sneakers as we do not want street dirt carried into the studio.     Dress Code Dancewear selections must present a clean and professional appearance allowing the instructor to clearly see the dancer’s body. This includes refraining from wearing dance attire with large graphics and logos. Bare legs, bare midriffs, loose or sloppy warm-up pants, cut-off tights, and plastic sweat pants are not permitted in classes. Personal grooming is also important. Hair must be securely fastened off face and neck in order not to interfere with the execution of turns and jumps. Students must also refrain from wearing heavy or sharp hair ornaments and jewelry. There are several days during the year when the Instructors may allow less rigid dress, e.g., Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, etc. The Instructor will announce these days in advance. Ballet Studio Classes – Technique and Pointe Daily Class Dress code • Women: Any solid single-color leotards and pink tights. Leg warmers may be worn in cases of injury and with instructor approval. Leg warmers must be knit, tight fitting, and a light pastel color in order to be less visually distracting– pink is recommended. For Pointe classes, the same dress code applies. Skirts or rehearsal tutus may be worn only at the request of the instructor when working on variations. • Men: Any solid single-color form fitting t-shirt, leotard or the like, tucked in (no large graphics), black or gray tights, white socks and white shoes, or socks and shoes of the same color.     Hints and Tips for using tights, sock and stocking aids or equipment These products are designed to prevent you from bending; so sit back and upright in your seat, drop the aid onto the floor, and wiggle your toes in whilst staying sitting upright. If you find it difficult using these products on a chair, you could try sitting up in bed and using it there as your legs will be better supported. If you are using an aid with a cord pull keep the tape an equal length each side so that you have a firm even grip. Pull up evenly on both sides. If you are using an aid with tape that you pull we suggest that you may want to loop the tape around your hand, this helps prevent the tape slipping when you pull it through your fingers. You could create a loop at the point you generally pull from so you can just slip your hand through the loop each time you use the aid (see picture). If you have difficulty putting on socks, tights etc, it is easier not to wear tight clothing such as very close fitting tights (you could always try the next size up). Sprinkling talc on any of the products can make it much easier to slide your foot in. To reduce the amount of bending/leaning involved in using these products you may find it easier to bring your foot up and rest it on a chair in front of you. If you are using an aid please be patient when learning how to use it and persevere as with practice you can find them very useful.

Workshops Moving with Parent & Tot Bring yourself and your child in something you can easily move in. We will be dancing, rolling and sliding and jumping on and off the floor. Dancers will dance barefoot. Beginning/Intermediate Ballet Dancers may wear leotards and convertible tights or leggings. Hair should be up and out of the face. A bun would be ideal. Ballet shoes are optional. Intro to Tap Dancers should wear comfortable and flexible clothes to move in. Tap shoes are required. Hair should be up and out of the face. Beginning Hip Hop Breakdancing 101 Hair should be up and out of the face. Dancers should wear breathable workout clothes, like leggings, warm-up pants and tank tops or t-shirts. Pants that cover the knee are recommended. Dancers may also wear sneakers that are clean on the bottom (not worn on the street) or a dance sneaker for support. Classes for Ages 3-5 Hip Hoppers Shake, Rattle & Roll Hair should be up and out of the face. Dancers should wear comfortable clothes to move in like leggings, cotton pants, t-shirts or tank tops. No slippers, zippers or buttons. Please have your child ready to move barefooted (NO FOOTED TIGHTS). Please keep accessories such as crowns, wands, wings, stuffed animals and ballet slippers at home.     Section 11: APPARATUS AND ATTIRE REGULATIONS I. GENERAL REGULATIONS A. All apparatus must meet USA Gymnastics/FIG specifications. This is the responsibility of the coach and the gymnast. Refer to FIG "Measurements, Dimensions and Forms" booklet and the FIG Code of Points . B. An equipment check can be conducted for all USA Gymnastics sanctioned meets. II. ROPE SPECIFICATIONS A. Material: The rope may be of hemp, or synthetic material provided that it posses the identical qualities of lightness, suppleness as does rope made of hemp. B. Length: the length is in proportion to the size of the gymnast. C. Ends: Handles of any kind are not allowed but one or two knots are permitted at each end. At the ends (to the exclusion of all other parts of the rope) an anti-slip material, either colored or neutral may cover a maximum of 10 cm. D. Shape: The rope may be either of a uniform diameter or be progressively thicker in the center provided that this thickening is of the same material as the rope. E. Color: The rope must be colored (all or partially). III. HOOP SPECIFICATIONS A. Material: The hoop may be of wood or plastic, provided that the latter retains its shape during the movement. Note: Foreign particles should be removed from inside the hoop before use. B. Diameter: The interior diameter of the hoop is from 80 to 90 centimeters. C. Weight: A minimum of 300 grams 1.
