High degree Elesco Fire Tube Super heaters were installed in the boilers in 1923, capable of giving 200° superheat to the steam at 175 lb. boiler pressure. This boat operates for the greater part of the year on three boilers at an average speed of 12 miles per hour. After the superheaters were in stalled, tests were made under conditions similar to those under which the boat oper ated when using saturated steam showing a fuel saving of 13.8%. Over 3000 ships, flying all flags, are equipped with Elesco type Superheaters.
