A Call to Action for Libraries

1 WHERE YOUR PHOTOS MAKE

We believe that the ability of libraries to document and share history is overlooked and underutilized in today’s world. That’s why we’re reaching out to you.

The Local Chronicle Project invites library staff to record and share your local history and achievements using your photographic resources and knowledge, with the help of local , educators, students, and residents.

Chronicle is a new and free platform and community where everyone’s photos come together to create our visual . Chronicle empowers people with shared interests and experiences to collectively record stories over .

• Reaffirms the library’s important place as a historical and cultural center in local society

• Creates a collaborative historical and ongoing record that serves as both an educational resource and a link to community happenings

• Increases understanding and support of local history, causes, and community

• Allows residents to stay instantly connected to the community

• An easy, modern, and visual way for people of all ages and backgrounds to support and engage with their history and community

3 YOUR LOCAL CHRONICLE: CHRONICLE DETAIL

• Photos appear chronologically on an interactive

• A description of the chronicle appears below the timeline along with the owner’s name

• The library is the owner & moderator of the chronicle, adding their own content and approving content submitted to the chronicle by others

• Users can add photos to the chronicle and “follow” it to see updates

• Users can and share slideshows from the chronicle via text or social media

4 INTERACTIVE TIMELINE AND COLLABORATION

• Photos are collaboratively added to an interactive timeline, creating a unique record that allows users to easily access moments in history

• Students, educators, historians, etc. can contribute content from their as well as from current community happenings and daily life

• Moderator permissions can be set to approve and manage photos

5 YOUR LOCAL CHRONICLE: IMAGE DETAIL

• Tapping on a photo in the timeline displays the photo at full size with description and details

• Contributors add descriptions to each photo to quickly and easily relay a moment in history

• All photos are dated and credited and belong to the photographer/source

• The user who added the photo is displayed along with the photo

• Any user can report an inaccurate or inappropriate photo for it to be edited or removed

• Photos can be removed/deleted by the moderator (the library)

• Review and discuss the Local Chronicle Project

• Set up user accounts for library staff and select others to begin adding to the chronicle

• Plan and implement roll-out to the community
