PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The MSc in Applied Archaeological Sciences is designed in order to provide the necessary knowledge and expertise to students, re- searchers, managers and leaders of the sector. The program is an original combination of modern concept and needs for identification, documentation, maintenance, rescue and diffusion of at risk world heritage. Contemporary approaches which act as catalysts in the preser- vation and documentation of cultural heritage, that is also relevant to past social and anthropological interpretations through the interdisciplinary approach. The course includes concrete hands-on field & laboratory interactions, theoretical evalua- tion & modern digital and other technological tools. The program is at the level of professional practice, which refers to World examples with case studies from the region of the Eastern Mediterranean & Near-Middle East, includes applications in the society of information technology, educational programs and systems for lifelong learning (education, training, professional development, etc.), by applying the most modern methods and practices in the field of new technologies, management, conservation of archaeological finds, fo- cused in archaeological research, documentation, dissemination, curation, processing of big data; highlighting local, regional and national sustainable development projects and educational pro- cesses in the exploitation of cultural assets of ancient civilizations and cultural heritage. The Master has an original concept and contains a range of knowledge as a cross-curricular sub- ject, where four axes - Archaeometry, Management, Conservation, Digitalization- converge to one objective - Cultural promotion and Sustainability: Archaeometry with the tech- niques and methods from the natural sciences, Applied conservation science and preventive measures on conservation of antiquities & arts, Digital cultural archaeology & heritage, and Targeted examples on the archaeology and ancient cultures related to ancient Mediterra- nean and parts of the World, all via their proper management in all aspects of the doc- umentation, preservation, promotion, diffusion and sustainability, for a landscape, a region and a country. This coexistence, harmoniously structured in theory, ex- perience in the exploitation of software applications, practical training in the diploma thesis, and especially the reliance on methods and techniques, new technologies and modern methodologies in the study and the exploitation of the valorization / promotion of cultural heritage for the Master thesis, are all of an international originality and innovation with dynam- ics that prepares the student for a career in the private, public workplace.

This joint Master Programme is offered in the Greek language. There is also an International version of the Master which will be offered in the English language.

AIMS

On a theoretical level, at the production and transmission of scientific knowledge in the areas of applied modern technology in archeology of life-long learning, the education of new graduates and adults and e-learning, as well as the methodology of scientific research in the field of archae- ometry, archaeology of the S.E. Mediterranean and the World, extends on the digital archaeolo- gy and basic principles of conservation and management of antiquities, both as education and training. In terms of professional practice, the acquisition of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the development and implementation of pilot archaeological programs and digital heritage in education in the Delphi in situ fieldwork activities.

GOAL

The Goal of the program is the postgraduate education in the advanced digital cultural Heritage and in the archaeological sciences and offers basic hands-on experience & training in conducting research and in applications to cultural heritage through sci- ence and technology. The interdisciplinary program is addressed to: • teachers and education & research professionals, • executives in organizations and enterprises in the public and pri- vate sector involved in archaeology, cultural heritage, sustain- able development • scientists / researchers of exact and / or human scienc- es who use and implement virtual archaeology pro- grams, museology, cultural tourism, conservation, digitalization of cultural goods, development of cultural projects with archaeological con- tent for sustainability, as well as, to those that follow with a PhD in a relevant discipline.

DIDACTICS

Didactic activity takes place through the Internet, in the relevant section of the portal: www.uninettunouniversity.net, the first portal in the world where teaching is delivered in five languages: Italian, English, French, Arabic and Greek.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor degree in natural sciences, humanities, social sciences arts and cultural areas from a recognized institution.
