Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Centro de Educação e Humanidades Instituto de Letras Departamento de Língua Portuguesa, Literatura Portuguesa e Filologia Românica UERJ – SR3 – DEPEXT – Publicações Dialogarts 2013 Re-Memorando Murilo Rubião 20 Anos de sua Morte / ISBN 978-85-86837-XX-X APRESENTAÇÃO Este livro representa a concretização de mais uma das etapas empreendidas pelo Seminário Permanente de Estudos Literários da UERJ – SePEL.UERJ, pelo Grupo de Pesquisa “Nós do Insólito: vertentes da ficção, da teoria e da crítica”, vinculado ao CNPq, e pelo Grupo de Trabalho “Vertentes do insólito ficcional”, vinculado à ANPOLL. As pesquisas desenvolvidas por esses grupos de pesquisa e de trabalho têm por objetivo refletir sobre as diferentes possibilidades de manifestação do insólito ficcional, seja como estratégia de construção de gênero literário, como recurso de modalização discursiva ou como tema. As propostas de estudo aqui apresentadas são, então, aquelas que levam a repensar o percurso histórico tanto da produção literária de matiz não real-naturalista, inscrita no sistema mais comumente nomeado por fantástico, em sentido lato, quanto a crítica que se fez sobre essa literatura, assim como as teorias de que essa tradição crítica se apropriou. Nesse sentido, o leque de vertentes do insólito ficcional é amplo e abarca uma diversidade de manifestações estéticas em que o trabalho ficcionalé sustentado pela emergência de situações insólitas, que geralmente colocam o leitor em contato com o desconhecido, o inexplicável, o estranho, o sobrenatural, com aquilo que não lhe é comum em seu quotidiano. O livro reúne comunicações livres e comunicações em sessões de simpósios, que integraram a programação de um evento que se propôs a homenagear aquele que fixou o êg nero fantástico no Brasil e deu estatuto de nobreza a uma vertente literária que, até há pouco tempo, manteve-se bastante desprestigiada na literatura nacional. Trata-se do X Painel “Reflexões sobre o insólito na narrativa ficcional” / III Encontro Regional “O Insólito como Questão na Narrativa Ficcional”: Re-memorando Murilo Rubião – 20 anos de sua morte, realizado de 16 a 18 de novembro de 2011. Em setembro de 1991, morria Murilo Rubião, aos 75 anos de idade. Natural de Carmo de Minas, o escritor mineiro deixava uma obra bastante singular, reunindo 32 narrativas curtas publicadas ainda em vida; uma inédita somente publicada após a sua morte, mas dada por pronta para publicação pelo autor ainda vivo; e um inventário com infindáveis textos ainda em fase de produção, que o perfeccionista mineiro nunca chegou a dar por prontos para publicação, ficando no limbo da eterna reescritura. Rubião, para muitos, teria publicado pouco, mas, antes de levar ao público suas narrativas, como um esteta que foi, reescrevia seus textos reiteradamente, rabiscando-os, modificando-os, lapidando- 5 Re-Memorando Murilo Rubião 20 Anos de sua Morte / ISBN 978-85-86837-XX-X os como um cuidadoso e cauteloso escultor sobre pedra preciosa quebrantável. Essa busca incessante pela forma ideal traduz o desejo de perseguir, de modo peculiar, o aprimoramento da linguagem e os novos sentidos que teimavam em não se fixar, levando suas narrativas sempre para um outro lugar. Críticos de renome, como Antonio Candido, reconhecem que Murilo Rubião inaugurou no Brasil “a ficção do insólito absurdo”, antecipando, assim, ainda que sem o reconhecimento da crítica em sua época, os novos rumos que tomaria a literatura latinoamericana, expressos, logo mais tarde, na ficção de Jorge Luís Borges, Júlio Cortázar, Gabriel García-Márquez e outras personagens do boom verificado a partir da década de 1960. Sempre que, no universo da literatura brasileira, fala-se, por exemplo, em Fantástico ou Realismo Mágico – duas das muitas vertentes do insólito ficcional –, as referências a Rubião e a sua obra são inevitáveis. Se o legado do autor constitui-se de apenas 33 narrativas curtas acabadas, o legado da crítica literária sobre esse aparentemente pequeno conjunto de textos é vastíssimo, rico e de referência necessária para os estudos do insólito ficcional no Brasil. Na perspectiva de manter viva sua memória e de rediscutir novas possibilidades críticas de leitura interpretativa de sua obra é que, em 2011, re- memoramos Murilo Rubião, aos 20 anos de morte e a 5 anos do centenário de seu nascimento. Assim, a presente publicação reúne os textos integrais das comunicações que foram apresentadas no “X Painel Reflexões sobre o insólito na narrativa ficcional / III Encontro Regional O Insólito como Questão na Narrativa Ficcional: Re-memorando Murilo Rubião, 20 anos de sua morte”. O evento contou com a participação de inúmeros especialistas do autor, não apenas do Rio de Janeiro, como também de pesquisadores vindos de outras universidades brasileiras. Os profícuos debates que se seguiram às apresentações estimularam os pesquisadores a reescreverem seus textos, incorporando as reflexões propostas, contribuindo assim para o enriquecimento e a reatualização da fortuna crítica de Murilo Rubião. Ao re-trazer à memória o escritor mineiro e sua obra, espera-se re-iluminar antigas e re-passadas visões críticas, re-inaugurar o debate acerca de seu legado literário, re-encontrar possibilidades de cotejo da obra rubiana com autores nacionais e estrangeiros, e descobrir outras e novas possibilidades de aproximação, abrindo outras frentes de pesquisa, ampliando o debate, sem, contudo, perder de vista a tradição crítica. Desse modo, considerando a importância de Murilo Rubião na série literária brasileira, seu caráter antecipador, que serviu de modelo de emulação para outros textos do gênero nas letras nacionais, espera-se que esta coletânea 6 Re-Memorando Murilo Rubião 20 Anos de sua Morte / ISBN 978-85-86837-XX-X seja mais uma contribuição que permita resgatar e manter viva parte dessa memória, além de estimular novos estudos consagrados ao escritor e à ficção fantástica no Brasil. Yokai are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore. They range from dangerous and aggressive to helpful and fortuitous. Kitsune are often associated with fire, “kitsunebi” or Fox-fire, similar in a way to “wil-o-wisps”, created by kitsune breathing fire into lanternlight orbs to light paths for other yokai or to trick humans. Kitsune are extremely intelligent and powerful shape-shifters. They frequently harass humans by transforming into fearsome monsters *giants, trains, oni etc.

    Bulletin of the National Museum of Japanese History Vol. 202 March 2017 Kunio Yanagita’s Archaeological Interest of Tono-Monogatari (The Legends of Tono) KURODA Atsushi It has not been paid attention very much to an archaeological description of the Episode 112 in Tono-monogatari which is known as Kunio Yanagita’s monumental work. This report considers Kunio Yanagita’s archaeological interest through clarifying the writing process and the background of the Episode 112 in Tono-monogatari. The talk of Kizen Sasaki, a narrator of legends and stories, deeply participates in the process of writing Tono-monogatari the most. After understanding what was written in the Episode 112 in Tono- monogatari, I read Kokoukobutsu-gouki (The description of archaeological artifacts Kizen Sasaki collected in his childhood) carefully to investigate an original form of his talk. In Kokoukobutsu-gouki, there were descriptions of collected-sites and shapes of archaeological artifacts he studied mainly in his local area, and it corresponds with contents of the Episode 112 in Tono-monogatari roughly. In addition, there was an archaeological description in Jishin-no-yuranai-to-iutokoro (The place to be told that the earthquake never occur) written by Kizen Sasaki in his after years, and I was able to find the Kizen Sasaki’s intention of telling the original form of the Episode 112 in Tono-monogatari to Kunio Yanagita. Through this revealing process of Kizen Sasaki’s original form of his story, I found that his intention had not been seemed to be reflected perfectly in the Episode 112 in Tono-monogatari written by Kunio Yanagita.

    Oral Tradition, 7/2 (1992):373-82 Current State of Studies in Oral Tradition in Japan Hiroyuki Araki The present state of studies in oral tradition in Japan has remained almost unknown to non-Japanese during the thirty years since Richard M. Dorson contributed his article “Folklore Research in Japan” to Folklore Research Around the World in 1961. Dorson noted that Kunio Yanagita had published a hundred books and a thousand articles, to which he added (117) “—or more properly, he had permitted his name to be listed as author on those works. The disciples of the great scholar, pursuing their research under his sponsorship, were delighted to see his name on their work.” Dorson’s statement is not quite accurate. It is true that Yanagita’s disciples sought to place his name on their works; but up to the time of Dorson’s arrival in Tokyo in 1956, Yanagita had published 149 books and 2,327 articles of his own (easily confirmed by supplemental vol. no. 5 of Teihon Yanagita Kunio Shu [Complete Works of Kunio Yanagita]). Of course, this number includes short articles that appeared in newspapers and monthly magazines; but, excluding those, more than one thousand articles can be described as regular treatises. Dorson also mentioned that the Japanese Folklore Institute was almost literally the lengthened shadow of that one man, Kunio Yanagita; for he not only founded the whole field of folklore science in Japan and established the Institute in the large library of the house he had given his daughter, but he himself lived next door, in a small, newer, shrubbery-surrounded home.

Folkloristics began in the 17th century with the work of Giambattista Vico (1668-1744), and in the social context of the anti-hegemonic and anti-enlightenment movements of 18th and 19th century Germany was formed from the confluence of the Philology strongly promoted by Johann Gottfried von Herder (1744-1803) and the Grimm brothers (Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm [1785-863] and Wilhelm Karl Grimm [1786-1859]) with the Local Studies of Justus Möser (1720-1794). Folkloristics subsequently spread around the world and uniquely developed as a discipline in each area. It is a scholarly field that engenders knowledge that―based on subjective understandings which incorporate the relationships between human life as developing from dimensions different than the social topologies of authority, the universal, the center and mainstream―overcomes and relativizes bodies of knowledge composed from the criteria of the latter (Shimamura 2017). What is most important for an understanding of Folkloristics is that it was first fully formed in Germany as a form of resistance to the Napoleonic hegemonism which aimed to control Europe and to the France-centered Enlightenment movement of the 18th and 19th centuries. And, it is important to note that, whether having been directly or indirectly inspired by Germany, folkloristics was independently especially strongly formed in other societies that like Germany shared an anti-hegemonic context.     Lafcadio Hearn and Yanagita Kunio Who initiated folklore studies in Japan ? Yoko Makino Ladies and Gentlemen, the titleof my paper is "Lafcadio Hearn and Yanagita Kunio : Who initiated folklore studies in Japan ? " As you may know, Yanagita Kunio (1875-1962) is called the founder of Japanese Minzokugaku. He conducted extensive research into, and es- tablished the methods and framework for folklore studies in Japan. However, the works of Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904) were already widely read when Yanagita started his folklore studies. And, as is often pointed out, one of the main characteristics of the works of Hearn is his deep concern with folklore. He was interested, and recorded the legends, superstitions, and religious customs in New Orleans, Martinique, and in Japan. Folklore was always his means to understand the mentality of the people. Today I would like to show that although Yanagita established folk- lore as a new academic fieldin Japan, he was inspired by Hearn in certain aspects, and that this influence, or perhaps we might say, emanation of imagination from Hearn to Yanagita, played a role which was not insig- nificantin deciding the character of Japanese folklore studies. Yanagita was a man who had an extensive career. He was a poet in his younger days, and also worked as a government bureaucrat and diplo- mat for many years. He then worked as a journalist, traveling all over the ― 133 － country and publishing numerous books on Japanese folklore and culture. But perhaps for the general public, he is best known as the author of The Legends of Tono (1910), a collection of tales and legends of the Tono districtin northern Japan.
