Glyndyfrdwy Access / Egress

Access Conditions:

• Paddling is allowed if the water level is at least 3ft (High Water) on the Coed Y Glyn gauge at 8am, at any time of the year; • Between 1st April and 30 th August, paddling is allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays irrespective of water height; • In all cases, launching is between 10am (9.30am for Commercial Operators) and 12.30pm; • Please be downstream of Groeslwyd by 1.30pm and vacate the water by 3pm at town weir (or at Ty Mawr in High Water conditions); • Strictly no tubes or rafts allowed (other than duckies); • Maximum of two persons per canoe or duckie.

Directions:

• From Llangollen take the A5 heading west towards ; • After approximately 5 miles you arrive at Glyndyfrdwy; • In the middle of the village take the right turn signposted to Rhewl and ; • Follow this lane down through the village, over the railway and then over the bridge crossing the river; • Turn right at the “T” junction on the other side of the bridge; • Follow the road for 230 yards until you come to a white house on your left and some white railings on your right and the entrance to Coed-Y-Glyn Log Cabins property; • Enter Coed-Y-Glyn and take the track to your immediate right; • The track then turns back left on itself, with the access point a few yards further on.

Note that Coed Y Glyn is a private facility and vehicle parking is subject to the owner’s terms and condition.

First Egress Point: Horseshoe Falls

Directions:

• From Llangollen take the A5 heading west towards Corwen; • After 1.5 miles take a right turn to the B5103, signposted to and Horseshoe Pass; • Cross over the Dee, the road bends to the right and then to the left and you will reach a "T" junction; • Turn sharp left and after 75yards you will see the car park entrance on your left; • Offload boats in the car park and carry them across the fence and down the grass slope of the field until you reach the canal pumping station just below the falls, accessing the river here.

Directions:

• In Llangollen head west along the A5 towards Corwen; • After 1.0 miles, you will see the Mill on your right; • Enter and go down the sloping drive to the car park.

Note that Mile End Mill is a private facility and vehicle parking is subject to the owner’s terms and condition.

Third Egress Point: Llangollen Town Weir

Directions: • In Llangollen ( Street) cross to the north bank of the Dee via the road bridge; • On the other side turn right at the t-junction onto the A539 towards Rhiwabon (); • After 260 yards take the right turn to the Long Stay car park just after the Ponsonby Arms pub; • The exit from the river is at the bottom end of the car park.

Fourth Egress Point: Ty Mawr Country Park NOTE – To use this egress point, the water level must be recorded as 3ft or higher on either the Coed Y Glyn or the Mile End Mill river height gauges at 8:00am on the morning of paddling. You must vacate the water here by 3pm.

Directions: • In Llangollen head east along the A5 towards Shrewsbury; • After 4.7 miles, turn left on the B5605; • After 1.5 miles, turn left onto Cae-Gwilym Lane; • After 200 yards turn left into the Visitor Centre parking.
