OFFICIATING, LLC The Redding / Shaw Weekly Quiz Week 13

This quiz is being provided on a weekly basis to promote robust crew discussions and further individual rules study. It is in no way intended to be official play interpretations, as those are contained within Part II of the 2019 NCAA Football Rules, and are updated by official CFO Play Interpretation Bulletins when released during the season. These quizzes will be released on Wednesday of each game week, with answers being provided on the following Monday.

Answer each question by giving THESE FOUR ITEMS of information for the next time the is to be put in play: Team in possession and distance (or Free Kick or Try) Yard line of succeeding spot Game clock status (Ready/ / Running / FK Rules / No Clock / 10-Second Runoff)

For any fouls that are not offset, assume that the penalty is accepted unless it is declined by rule, including accepting a 10 second subtraction if it is available.

1. Third and 13 at the A-3. QB A17 in the is hit after his hand has started forward. The ball pops up into the air and A34 intentionally bats the ball forward. The loose ball rolls to the A-4 where A55 recovers it.

Ruling: A, 4/13, A-3, Snap

2. Team A executes an at the A-35. During the kick A22 touches the sideline at the A-40. He returns inbounds and recovers the untouched kick inbounds at the A-47.

Ruling: A, Free kick, A-30, No clock

3. Fourth and one at the B-40. Team A is in scrimmage kick formation with seven players on the line, only four of whom have numbers 50-79. The then moves up behind the snapper in position to receive a hand-to-hand snap. Team A snaps the ball and gains five yards on the play. B17 was in the neutral zone at the snap without making contact.

Ruling: A, 4/1, B-40, Ready

4. Third and seven at the A-40. The game clock is running. Linebacker B56 is stationary within one yard of the neutral zone. As the offense is calling its snap signals, B56 feints toward the line in an obvious attempt to induce a . His movements are exaggerated actions that are not normal defensive movements.

Ruling: A, 3/2, A-45, Ready

5. With 1st and 10 at the A-45, Guard A66 is next to the snapper. Immediately after the snap, A66 blocks nose guard B55 at the A-46 below the waist and from the side. A44 gains 7 yards on the play.

Ruling: A, 2/3, B-48, Running

6. Ball carrier A22 is tackled hard inbounds by B44 at the B-5 resulting in a 1st and goal. After the ball is dead, A22 gets up and shoves the ball in B44’s face.

Ruling: A, 1/10, B-20, Ready

7. With 3rd and 10 at the A-40 Team A lines up with A12 ten and one half yards directly behind the snapper. The other 3 backs are split wide, all outside the box. Only 4 Team A linemen have uniform numbers between 50 – 79. A12 receives the backward pass from the snapper with Team A in this formation and throws a pass to A88, complete for a 15 yard gain.

Ruling: A, 3/15, A-35, Ready

8. Team A snaps at the 50 yard line and punts on 4th down. The kick is untouched beyond the neutral zone when A88 reaches across team B’s goal line and batts the ball back into the field of play. B22 recovers at the B-2 and advances to the B-12 where A66 tackles him by pulling and twisting his facemask.
