For Immediate Release August 26, 2019 FLEMINGTON DIY Announces Its 2019 Fall Series

Flemington, NJ — August 26, 2019 FLEMINGTON DIY is pleased to announce its fall 2019 Jazz Series featuring ​ world-class jazz musicians.

September 21 | Good & Plenty Jazz: The Roxy Coss Quartet - The first ​ show of the fall series, scheduled for September 21, will live up to its name, Good & Plenty Jazz. The quartet features Roxy Coss on sax; Tom Kozic on guitar, Ian Froman on drums; and Gene Perla on bass. Roxy ​ Coss is a New York City-based modern jazz musician, composer, bandleader, educator and activist. Coss has become one of the most unique and innovative saxophonists on the scene. Winner of a 2016 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award, the Downbeat Magazine Critics’ ​ ​ ​ ​ Poll listed her as a "Rising Star" on soprano saxophone the past six years ​ ​ in a row, Downbeat called her "An exceptional young talent”, and Jazziz Magazine listed her an “Artist to Watch in ​ 2019.” from Seattle, she has been a fixture on the for a dozen years. ​

The Roxy Coss Quartet performs Coss’ original compositions and arrangements, and has headlined at many major venues and festivals, including the Newport Jazz Festival, NYC Winter JazzFest, Earshot and Ballard Jazz Festivals, ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ the Appel Room for the 2016 ASCAP Foundation Awards, the , Jazz Showcase, and the Midwest ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Clinic “Music & Arts” Reception. ​

October 26 | Miki Yamanaka/Steve Nelson Duo - The second show of the fall ​ series, scheduled for October 26, will be a dynamic duo featuring pianist, Miki ​ Yamanaka, and vibraphonist Steve Nelson. ​

Miki Yamanaka is a New York-based pianist from Kobe, Japan. She moved to New York City in 2012 and has studied piano with Jason Lindner, Jeb Patton, and Fred Hersch, and organ with Sam Yahel and Larry Goldings. In 2015, she was one of three pianists selected to participate in “’s Jazz Ahead,” an intensive composition residency at the Kennedy Center. She recently earned her Master of Music degree from Queens College, receiving the Sir Roland Hanna Award. She has been known as one of the busiest pianists in her generation.

Steve Nelson is an outstanding vibraphonist and composer was born in Pittsburgh, . As a resident of the New York area, he has performed and recorded with many great musicians including , , , David Fathead Newman, and Jackie McLean. He has appeared at concerts and festivals worldwide and has made three ​ recordings as the leader of his own group. His recordings as a leader include Live At Acireale (Red ​ ​ Records), Full Nelson (Sunnyside) and Communications (Criss Cross). Recordings with others ​ ​ ​ ​ include Mulgrew Miller, David “Fathead” Newman, Kenny Barron, Jackie McLean and Johnny Griffin.

Miki recorded an album with Steve Nelson, Orlando le Fleming, and in 2017, which was released by a Canadian label, Cellar Live, in 2018.

November 23 | Noam Wiesenberg Quartet – The final show of 2019 will feature Noam ​ Wiesenberg on bass, along with Philip Dizak on trumpet, Micah Thomas on piano and a drummer to be announced. Hailing from Tel Aviv, Noam Wiesenberg is a highly sought ​ after bassist and arranger on the New York music scene.

Noam was born into a musical family, and exposed to many different genres at an early age. After 12 years of playing the cello, Noam switched his focus to the double bass at age 20. Following this transition, he quickly became an integral part of the Israeli jazz scene. His classical background informs both his composition and arranging, and has lead to collaborations with some of the top symphony orchestras in Israel, including The ​ Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, The Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and the Israel Defense Force Education Unit Orchestra. ​

Noam moved to New York, realizing a long-time dream to join many of his friends, collaborators, and mentors. Noam has since worked with many musicians from New York and beyond, including Antonio Sanchez, Ari Hoenig, Billy Hart, Jeff ​ “Tain” Watts, Gilad Hekselman, , Jonathan Kreisberg, , Will Vinson, Dave Liebman, Aaron Goldberg, Shai Maestro, Uri Cane, Matisyahu and more. ​

As an arranger, his extensive international work includes an arrangement for the Metropole Orkest with Grammy award ​ ​ winning singer Lalah Hathaway, conducted by the multiple Grammy award winner Vince Mendoza. Additionally, ​ ​ ​ ​ Wiesenberg wrote string quartet arrangements for Chilean Singer-Guitarist Camila Meza’s new project - “Camila Meza & ​ ​ ​ Nectar Orchestra”, and was the arranger and musical director of a nonet project led by luminary drummer - Ari Hoenig. ​ ​ ​

Following a ten year career as an arranger and performer of the work of other musicians, Noam has released his debut album, "Roads Diverge," on May 18, 2018, on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records. ​ ​

The FLEMINGTON DIY Jazz Series is made possible by funds from the Hunterdon County Cultural Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Council of the Arts, and is sponsored by the Creative Flemington Team.
