As a Solo Artist, Gibbs has released 9 Jazz Recordings. His first, back in 1996, ‘Gerry Gibbs Sextet – The Thrasher’ features Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane with Quincy Jones as Executive Producer, while his last two recordings: ‘Gerry Gibbs & The Thrasher Dream Trio’, ’We’re Back’ and ‘Live In Studio’ feature Ron Carter & Kenny Barron. In 2014 and 2015, all three recordings topped the National Jazz Radio Charts. Gerry performed, recorded and toured with a who’s who in jazz, funk, electronic & world music, among them: McCoy Tyner, Stanley Clarke, Joe Henderson, James Moody, Patrice Rushen, Dewey Redman, Eddie Harris, Mike Stern, Larry Coryell, Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell, Brad Mehldau, Parliament Funkadelic & Electronic Music Pioneer Flying Lotus, to name but a few. GERRY GIBBS / DRUMS Essiet Okon Essiet an internationally renowned Bassist, having toured throughout the The Americas, Europe and Japan as part of the Blue Note Allstars and Danilo Perez's Motherland Project and with South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. A member of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Essiet performed and recorded with such notables as Benny Golson, Johnny Griffin, James Moody, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton, Pat Martino, Kenny Burrell, Jackie McLean, Kenny Barron, Louis Hayes, Art Farmer, Victor Lewis, Kenny Garrett, Kenny Kirkland ,Mulgrew Miller, Jeff "Tain " Watts, Mike Stern, Fort Apache Band, to highlight only a partial list. Currently, Essiet leads his own group called "IBO" named after a Nigerian tribe. It is a Nigerian jazz project which mixes jazz harmonies with West African rhythms. Ron Petrides is a New York based Guitarist, Composer and Educator. ESSIET ESSIET / BASS He began his career a young lounge and pit orchestra musician in Las Vegas, backing up such legends as Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Vic Damone, and many others. Having graduated with a Ph.D. in Composition from NYU in 2008 (with an original dissertation on the life and music of late 20th century composer Stephen Albert), Dr. Petrides has been on faculty at an array of schools in New York including NYU, Colombia University, Mercy College, and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He has several CD recordings to date, including RON PET Mongolia, and Café Aman America by Music World Productions. The latest CD Keepin in Stride, features only the original music with George Cables on piano, Dave Schnitter on saxophone and Chris Pasin on trumpet. Petrides has recorded and shared the stage through the years with such greats as Walter Bishop Jr., Dizzy Gillespie, Duffy Jackson, Billy RON PETRIDES / GUITAR Hart, Bob Mover, Ron McClure, Pete Minger, and many others. RB: I came to New York in the late ‘60s and caught the RANDY tail-end of the classic studio days. So I was really in the right place at the right time. Marvin Stamm, Joe Shepley and Burt Collins used me as a sub for some studio dates and I got involved in the classic studio when everybody was there at the same time, wearing suits and ties, you know? Eventually rock and R&B started to kind of encroach into the studio system so T (CONTINUED ON PAGE 42) T O BRECKER B B A N H O J by anders griffen Trumpeter Randy Brecker is well known for working in Montana. Behind the scenes, they were on all these pop various genres and with such artists as Stevie Wonder, and R&B records that came out on Cameo-Parkway, Parliament-Funkadelic, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, Bruce like Chubby Checker. You know George Young, who Springsteen, Dire Straits, Blue Öyster Cult, Blood, Sweat I got to know really well on the New York studio scene. & Tears, Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Billy Cobham, Larry He was popular on the scene as a virtuoso saxophonist. Coryell, Jaco Pastorius and Charles Mingus. He worked a lot He actually appeared on Ed Sullivan, you can see it on with his brother, tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker, and his website. So, all these things became an early formed The Brecker Brothers band.

Michael Brecker Chronology Compiled by David Demsey • 1949/March 29 - Born, Phladelphia, PA; raised in Cheltenham, PA; brother Randy, sister Emily is pianist. Their father was an attorney who was a pianist and jazz enthusiast/fan • ca. 1958 – started studies on alto saxophone and clarinet • 1963 – switched to tenor saxophone in high school • 1966/Summer – attended Ramblerny Summer Music Camp, recorded Ramblerny 66 [First Recording], member of big band led by Phil Woods; band also contained Richie Cole, Roger Rosenberg, Rick Chamberlain, Holly Near. In a touch football game the day before the final concert, quarterback Phil Woods broke Mike’s finger with the winning touchdown pass; he played the concert with taped-up fingers. • 1966/November 11 – attended John Coltrane concert at Temple University; mentioned in numerous sources as a life-changing experience • 1967/June – graduated from Cheltenham High School • 1967-68 – at Indiana University for three semesters[?] • n.d. – First steady gigs r&b keyboard/organist Edwin Birdsong (no known recordings exist of this period) • 1968/March 8-9 – Indiana University Jazz Septet (aka “Mrs. Seamon’s Sound Band”) performs at Notre Dame Jazz Festival; is favored to win, but is disqualified from the finals for playing rock music. • 1968 – Recorded Score with Randy Brecker [1st commercial recording] • 1969 – age 20, moved to New York City • 1969 – appeared on Randy Brecker album Score, his first commercial release • 1970 – co-founder of jazz-rock band Dreams with Randy, trombonist Barry Rogers, drummer Billy Cobham, bassist Doug Lubahn. The quintet that plays Kenny Drew's music here had never worked as a unit before the recording but the tremendous cohesion and spirit far outdistances many of today's permanent groups in the same genre. Of course, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes have been section mates in Cannonball Adderley's quintet since 1959 and this explains their hand-in- glove performance. With Drew, they combine to form a rhythm trio of unwavering beat and great strength. The two hornmen are on an inspired level throughout. Hank Mobley has developed into one of our most individual and compelling tenor saxophonists. His sound, big and virile, seems to assert his new confidence with every note. Mobley has crystallized his own style, mixing continuity of ideas, a fine sense of time and passion into a totality that grabs the listener and holds him from the opening phrase. Freddie Hubbard is a youngster but his accomplished playing makes it impossible to judge him solely from the standpoint of newcomer. This is not to say that he is not going to grow even further as a musician but that he has already reached a level of performance that takes some cats five more years to reach.
