Our community is celebrating The 1st Anniversary of

The Performance and Education Center of in Arizona a 501(c)(3) organization and you are invited to participate. About The Nash

The Nash is the performance and education center of Jazz in Arizona, a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1977 to create a jazz community in the desert. While the Organization has a proud history of producing an average of 20-30 top-quality jazz performances a year and taking jazz into elementary schools, the opening of The Nash in mid-2012 has dramatically changed its scope and provided a stunning model for community building. More than 20,000 visitors to The Nash have enjoyed over 200 live jazz performances and participated in dozens of educational workshops. The Nash was honored with appearances by jazz giants including Lincoln Center’s and its name-sake, world-renowned drummer ; and it has been written about nationally in Downbeat Magazine and in the September 2013 issue of Phoenix Magazine.

In a little over a year's time, The Nash has gone from an optimistic vision for our jazz community to the most hopeful of realities. The 1st Anniversary Celebration of The Nash commemorates our extraordinary f irst year and provides opportunities to support our future growth – including more performances by jazz luminaries and the expansion our education programs to engage more underserved youth.

As the new president of Jazz in AZ/The Nash, it is my privilege to invite you to participate in the 1st Anniversary Celebration of The Nash, our performance and education center in the Roosevelt Row Arts District of Phoenix. Having such a distinguished line-up of musicians and exciting events is a fitting way to celebrate our 1st Anniversary. It is nothing short of amazing what has transpired in our first year. The Nash is creating an incredibly diverse community of jazz musicians, students, educators and audiences that is thriving on the joy of jazz music.

The Nash has regularly-scheduled performances every Friday and Saturday night; a jam session every Sunday evening, monthly parties, special events including Latin Jazz concerts, plus big band nights and seasonal performances by the ASU and Maricopa Community College jazz departments - more than 200 performances in all. A growing number of educational workshops, clinics and private lessons add to the profound impact of The Nash in our community.

When you come to the Sunday jam session and see a room packed week after week with people enjoying musicians – from teen students to world-class pros – spontaneously making music together, you get an immediate sense of the community-building power of The Nash. It brings people together, fosters an appreciation for jazz and provides the ultimate learning experience for student musicians. The Nash is a magical place; and we've only just begun.

Please accept my heartfelt invitation to be a part of this amazing celebration and our incredibly promising future.

Yours truly, Susan Dwyer
