Duringthetwentiethcentur y, theMormonT abernacle Choirbecamewellkno wnthroughouttheworldthrough itsrecordingsandw eeklyinter nationalradioand broadcastof MusicandtheSpok enWord.1Thechoirwasalso recognizedasrepresentingT heChurc hof JesusChristof LatterdaySaints.SincethebeginningoftheChurch,thegos pelmessagehasbeensharedthroughavarietyof outreach methods.Whilethemosteffecti ve way toteachpeoplethe gospelisthroughpersonalinteractionwithChurc hmem bersandmissionaries,theChurchhasalsousedothermeans throughthemediatopromotethea warenessandimageof theChurch.InmidJune1988,thechoirwentonathreeweek Pacifictour,includingconcertsinHa waii,NewZealand,and Australia,forthepurposeof sharingtheirmusicandprovid ingana venuethroughwhichindi vidualsintheselocations couldlearnmoreabouttheChurch.Thisc hapterwillchron iclesomeof theeventsleadinguptothetourandacti vities thattookplaceduringthetourandwillthenevaluateho w effectivethetourw asinbuildinguptheChurc hintheareas inwhichthechoirperformed.

1. MusicandtheSpokenW ordistheworld’s longest continuingnetwork broadcastandiscarriedonmorethantwothousandradioandtelevi sionstationsandcablesystems.Ithasbeenbroadcastfromlocations acrossthecountryandaroundtheworld.

Purposes of Choir Tours TheTabernacleChoirhasatleasttwomainpurposes.One importantresponsibilityistoprovidebeautifulmusicatgeneral conferencesandotherChurchsponsoredeventstostrengthen thefaithof Saintsacrosstheearth.Anothermajorg oalof thechoiristopromotetheChurc h’simageandtheteachings of thegospelthroughouttheworld.Choirmembersaresing ingambassadorsof theChurch,spreadinggoodwillandlift ingheartswherevertheygo.Thechoirdoesthisthroughtheir weeklybroadcast,recordings,specialconcer tsintheT aber nacleandConferenceCenter,andconcer ttours.2Indeed,the TabernacleChoircontinuestoplayavitalroleinbringingthe Church“outof obscurity”(D&C1:30). Inadditiontotheconcer tsthec hoirpro videsontour , Churchleadershavefoundthatthechoirtoursoftenhelpthe Churchintwowaysintheareastheyvisit.First,thetourshelp ChurchmembersoutsidetheInter mountainWestfeelmore connectedtotheChurch.Churchleadersha ve foundthat manymemberswholivefarawayfromUtahfeelstrongerties withtheChurchasawholewhentheyseethec hoirperform. Forexample,duringthec hoir’sfir sttourtoEuropein1955, theirperformanceinmeantthatmanyEastGer man Saintswereabletohearthem.ThousandsofLatterdaySaints inEastGermanyatthattimewerecutoff fromthebodyof theChurchbecausetheIronCurtainlimitedtheircommunica tion.However,whenthechoirarrivedandperformedinBer lin,Churchmemberswhoheardtheconcer tfeltthelo veof theworldwideChurch.3

Second,thec hoir’s concerts provide aw ay toheighten awarenessoftheChurchinthecommunitiesinwhichtheyper form.WendellM.Smoot,formerc hoirpresident,statedthat Churchleadersusethechoirtosupporttheirmissionaryefforts throughoutthew orld.4Furthermore, UdellE.Poulsen,the choir’sformerbusinessmanager,emphasizedthemediacover ageandexcellentreviewsreceivedinmanyareasof theworld wheretheChurchisrelativelyunknown,showingthattourshave helped“tobringthec hurchoutof obscurity.”5Forexample, whenthechoirvisitedSpainin1998,theMadridSpainTemple wasunderconstruction.PresidentDieterF.Uchtdorf,whowas AreaPresidentinEuropeatthetime,creditsthechoir’stourfor increasingthecommunityandmediainterestintheand otherChurchactivitiesintheIberianPeninsula.6 The1988tourtothePacifichadthesamepurposesasother tours,buttherewereadditionalrolesonthistour .Thec hoir wasinvitedtoparticipateinactivitiesassociatedwiththecel ebrationof thebicentennialof Australia’sfounding.Afterthe invitation,thechoirrecei vedacongratulatorytelegramfrom U.S.presidentRonaldR eagan namingtheT abernacle Choir “America’smostrenownedmusicalensemble.”7TheAmerican

AustralianBicentennialFoundationhaddesignatedthec hoir performancesasan“offi cialculturalre presentativeof the UnitedStates.”8Thechoirwasalsoinvitedtoperfor matthe world’sfair,Expo’88,inastheUnitedStates’con tributiontothefairandwasscheduledtoperfor monJuly4, 1988,thedatedesignatedasU.S.Day.9 Mediain volvementfortheP acifictourwasgreat,gi ven thatthetwomajorsponsorsweretheAustralianBroadcast ingCor poration(ABC)andtheNewZealandBroadcasting Corporation(NZBC).Theyar rangedforMusicandtheSpok en WordbroadcaststooriginatefromtheMichaelF owlerCen terin,NewZealand,andfromtheSy dneyOpera Housein,Australia,andbetransmittedviasatelliteto KSLTVandtheCBSRadioNetw ork.TheABCandNZBC alsorecordedseveralconcertsintheirowncountriesforlater distributionontelevisionandradiostations.10

Initial Preparation for the Tour AlthoughspecificplansforthePacifictourdidnotbegin untilacoupleof yearsbeforehand,perhapsthefi rststepin planningoccurreddecadesearlier.AyoungNewZealandbusi nessmannamedIainB.McK ayfir stheardarecordingof the MormonTabernacleChoir.Listeningtotherecordingchanged McKay’slifeandledtohisinitialinterestinandlatercon ver siontotheChurch.11Soonafterhearingtherecording,McKay

shareditwithSirMalcolmRickard,theheadof NewZealand Broadcasting.Hewasimpressedenoughb ythemusicthatin 1964heinvitedthechoirtoperforminNewZealand.Unfor tunately,thechoirwasunabletoaccepttheinvitation,butthe dreamlivedonforMcKayandRickard.12 Bythe1980s,McK aywaslivinginUtah.Hiswifewasa memberof theTabernacle Choir, andhewasw orkingasa representativeforBonnevilleCommunications(adivisionof BonnevilleInternationalCorporation,theparentcompanyof Churchownedcommercialbroadcastingoperations),whic h producedanddistributedthechoirbroadcasts .McK ay had thespecific responsibilityof promotingT abernacle Choir recordingsandbroadcastsinternationally.13Inthefallof1986, McKayrecei vedtheappro valofGordonB.Hinc kley, First CounselorintheFirstPresidency ,totak eapreliminarytrip toNewZealandandAustraliatoinquireaboutthepossibil ityof takingthechoirtothosetwocountries.Becausehehad kepthiscontactswithmediare presentativesinNewZealand overtheyears,McK aythoughthew ouldbeabletoobtaina promiseof sponsorshipfromtheNZBCforthec hoir’sper formancesinNewZealand.However,hewasunsureof how toestablishrelationswiththedirectorsof theA ustralian BroadcastingCorporation. McKayhadplannedtoattendtheFederationof Austra lianRadioBroadcastersConventioninSydney,hopingthathe couldfindthecontactsheneededwhilehew asthere.Ashe satatdinnerduringthecon vention,heheardanannounce mentthatthenextmorninghisfriendGeoffreyW hitehead wouldbeappointedasCEOof theAustralianBroadcasting Corporation.McK ay wassurprisedtohearthatW hitehead,

whowasheadof RadioNewZealanduntilthatmoment,was tobecometheheadof ABC.RightthereMcKaysaidaprayer of thanksgivinginhishear tthatheno whadacontactwith someoneinAustraliawhocouldmakeadecisionaboutspon soringthechoir.Inthemiddleof thedinner,McKaywentto Whitehead’s tabletocongratulatehimonhisgoodfor tune, andtheydecidedtomeettodiscussthepossibilityofbringing thechoirtoAustralia.14 Bythenextmorning,Whiteheadhadassembledallthe executivesconcernedwithconcertpromotionatABC,allo w ingMcK ay topresenthisplanforthec hoir’s concert tour. Althoughtheseindividualsw eresomewhatfamiliarwiththe choir,theywereskepticalaboutobtainingthenecessarycon cert hallsbecausetheyareusuallybook edw ellinadv ance. However,afterMcK ay decidedonthedatesandplacesfor theconcerts,Whitehead’ssecretarywentoutof themeeting andstartedphoningbookingag ents. Aftereachphonecall, thesecretaryreturnedandannouncedthattherehadbeenno concertscheduledforthenightinquestionandthatthehall wasbookedfortheTabernacleChoir. Whenthequestionof theSydneyOperaHousecameup, everyoneatthemeetingstatedthattheyneverwereableusethe OperaHouseexceptwhentheyhadaneventscheduledseveral yearsahead.McKayaskedthemtotrytobookthehallfortwo eveningperformances,alongwithaSundaymorningforthe broadcastof MusicandtheSpokenW ord.Thesecretarycame back, saying thattheOperaHouse’sbookingclerkhadjust “putthephonedownfromthe[Sydney]Symphonysecretary” whohadcancelledtheSymphony’sconcertsonthosev ery dates.15McKaysaidthathefelttheSpiritguidehimthroughout theexperienceof settingupalltheconcer tsforAustraliaand

NewZealand.McKaystatedthatthiskindof experience“isa typicalinstanceofthewonderfulthingsthathappenwhenever IworkwiththeTabernacleChoir.”16 Afterthesponsorshipof thebroadcastingcompanieswas settled,furthertourplanningwasunder takenby choirlead ersastheyfoundhotels,scheduledc harterflightsbetw een citiesandbusesfortra velingaroundthecities,andpro vided forallthefoodandacti vitiesof thechoirmemberswhileon tour.Mostof thearrangementsweremadeunderthedirec tionof WendellSmootandUdellPoulsen,whobothspent manyhourspreparingfortheneedsofchoirmembers.17Trav elingfortwentyonedayswithagroupof 450people,includ ingchoirmembers,someof theirfamilymembers,tec hnical crews,andthechoirstaffrequireddetailedorganization.Udell Poulsenlatermadethefollowingobservationsaboutthetour: “Wemade11flights,traveledatotalof23,300milesbyairand another650bylandandbysea,stayedin11hotelsinninedif ferentcities,performed17concertsinninedifferentconcer t halls....Wewereserved19dinnersasagroupin12different locations,andhad42bustripstoandfromair ports,toand fromconcerthalls,andforsightseeing.”18 Inadditiontothephysicalpre parations,musicalprepara tionhadtobemade.Dr .JeroldOttleyandDr.DonaldRipp linger,thechoir’sdirectorandassociatedirector,plannedand preparedalargemusicalre pertoiresotherewereseveralpos siblecombinationsfortheconcer ts.Theconcertsincludeda workfromMendelssohn,anewlycommissionedworkbyTab ernacleorganistRobertCundick,alongwithotherwellknown

Events of the Tour Onthetour,theconcertswerethemostimportantevents becausetheyprovidedthevehicleforallof theotherextra musicalexperiencesthattookplace.Choirleadersestimated thatapproximately35,000peopleattendedtheconcer ts.With theaudioandvideotapingof someconcerts,alongwithother mediacoverageassociatedwiththec hoir,itislikelythatmil lionsmoreheardthechoirsingonradioandtelevision. 20The concertswereheldatthefollowingplacesanddatesin1988: • Oahu,Hawaii:BYU–Hawaii’sCannonCenterinLaie andtheWaikikiShellin,June15and16 • NewZealand:TownHall,June20and21 • NewZealand:T wo concerts inWellington’s Michael FowlerCenter,June22,includingtapingof Musicand theSpokenWord • NewZealand:TownHall,June23 • Australia:Two concerts inConcertHall, June25 • Australia:Two concertsinF estivalTheatre, June27 • Australia:TwoconcertsinConcertHall,June29 • Australia:TwoconcertsinSydneyOperaHouse,July1 and2,plusvideotapingof MusicandtheSpokenW ord, July3 • Australia:Two concertsinBrisbaneP erformingArts Center,Expo’88,July4

Inadditiontothescheduledconcerts,someimpromptu singingoccurredasthechoirwaitedinair portsbecauseof fogordelayedflights.21Oneof theseexperiencesispar tic ularlynoteworthy. Astheschedulesho ws, therew aslittle timebetweenconcertsfortra velorsightseeing.Theflight betweenAucklandandWellingtoninnormalcircumstances wouldtakeonlyaboutanhour.Theplanwastoleaveonthe morningof June22toflytoWellington,wheretherewould bematineeandev eningperfor mances, thefirstof which wouldincludethevideotapingof MusicandtheSpokenWord. McKay,anativeof Wellington,knewthatsometimestheair port inWellingtoncouldbefog gedin,soheaskedc hoir memberstopraythatthefoginWellingtonwouldnotcause anydelaysasthec hoirtraveledonsev eralsmallair planes. McKaysaidthatbeforeheleftthehotelinA uckland, he calledhismotherinWellingtontoaskaboutthefog,andshe saidtheairportlookedclear. Asthefirstbusloadof choirmembersar rivedatthe Aucklandairport,however,therewassom uchfogthatno airplanes werede parting.Inretrospect,McK ay lightheart edlysaidthattheyhadprayedforthewrongair port,butat thetime,hewasextremelyworriedabouthowthechoirwas goingtoarriveinWellingtonintimeforthematineeconcert. McKaywentdirectlytoWendellSmoot,whosaid,“Iain,the Lordhasn’tbroughtusthisfartofail.We’regoingtoWelling ton.”22Sometimelaterthechoirleaders,includingPresident Smoot,UdellPoulsen,IainMcKay,andJeroldOttley,metin aroomwheretheykneltinpra yer,askingforhelptocom pletetheirmissionthatday. 23Aftertheyleftthemeeting,one of theAirNewZealandofficialsfoundPoulsenandMcKay,

tellingthemtogettheirpeopleloadedontheplanesbecause assoonastherewasanopeninginthefogtheywouldsend eachplaneoutonebyone.24 Whiletheywaited,Dr.Ottleystoodontopofthebaggage claimandconductedthechoirinseveralsongs,whichcalmed boththechoirandtheotherpasseng erswaitingforplanes . Onememberof theChurchwhowasworkingattheair port thatdayremembershowmucheveryoneintheairportappre ciatedthem usic.25Theplanesw ereloaded,w entouttothe endoftherunway,andthenwhenevertherewasanopeningin thefog,anairplaneflewoffasquicklyaspossible.Bythetime of theintermissionduringthematineeperformance,nearlyall thechoirmemberswerethere.Theperformancemaynothave beentheirbestbecauseonlyapor tionof thechoirwasthere ontime,buttheyfeltitwasananswertoprayerandamiracle thattheyarrivedinWellingtonatall.26

Blessing Church Members in the Pacifi c OnMay17,1987,theannouncementof thePacifictour wasmadebyPresidentHinckley,thechoir’sadviser. PresidentHinckleytoldthechoirthattheir“performanceswill be‘tremendouslysignificant’tothepeopleof Hawaii,New Zealand,andAustralia,particularlyChurc hMembers .”27As statedearlier,oneof themajorpurposesof atouristohelp builduptheChurchintheareaswherethechoirtravels.Udell Poulsentoldthec hoir,“Thistripwasamar velousmeansof bringingthespiritof theGospeltothepeoplesDownUnder. Formany,itwasanintroductiontotheChurch;forothersit

servedasadeepeningof testimonyof therestoredtruth;for membersitwasameanstostrengthenandfortifythemselv es aspartof agreatorganization.”28 ThePacifictourblessedChurc hmembersthroughboth concertsandfiresides.Duringtheconcerts,Churchmembers heardnotonlybeautifulchoralmasterw orksbutalsoLatter daySainthymnssuchas“Come,Come ,YeSaints”and“O MyFather.”OntwooccasionsduringtheconcertsinW el lington,theMaorisintheaudienceexpressedtheirg oodwill andgreetingbychantingandsingingtothechoir.29Awoman fromNewZealandwrotetothechoirofficeafterhearingthe concertinWellington,statingthatherfamily(includingsome whowerelessactiveintheChurch)wastouched.Shewrote, “SomehowyouknowthattheChurchistruewhenyoulisten tothechoir.”30Similarly,afterthechoirvisitedthePolynesian CulturalCenter,thecenter’spresident,RalphG.R ogersJr., wrotealettertoWendellSmootsayingthattheeventof see ingthechoirperformwouldliveonintheheartsofeveryone whoattended.31 Thechoiralsoheldninefiresidesduringtheeveningswhen thechoirwasnotperformingatconcerthalls.Becausemany Church memberswereunabletoattendtheconcer ts, these fir esidesprovidedanopportunityforlocalSaintsandtheir friendstominglewithchoirmembersandstaff.Thechoirwas splitintosmallgroupssothatseveralfi residescouldbeheld simultaneously.Choirmemberswereassignedtospeakatthe

fir esides,andtheysangafewmusicalnumbers.32Thousandsof membersandin vestigatorsattendedthefiresidesheldduring thetour.WendellSmootsaid,“Wethoughtperhaps200or300 peoplemightshowup.Wewereastonishedatnumberslik e 2,000inAucklandand1,500adultsinPerth.”33Thesefiresides providedbothbeautifulmusicandspiritualexperiencesforthe Churchmembersandtheirfriends.Onec hoirmembermeta womanwhosaidshehadbeenstr ugglingwithChurchatten dance,butafterfeelingtheSpiritatthefireside,shedecidedto becomeinvolvedintheChurchagain.34

Building Up the Church in the Pacifi c RightbeforethechoirleftfortheP acific, President Hinckleyspokewiththesingersaboutthetrip.Hestated,“It isanimportantthingfortheChurc hbecauseitcandoso verymuchtoaffecttheimageof theChurchinthoseg reat landsdownunder .Itisav eryimportantthingforthemis sionarieswhoarecountingonyourdoingmuchtohelpthem. ...V erymuchridesonwhaty oudo.YougoastheChoir of TheChurchof JesusChristof LatterdaySaintsandy ou willbesolookedupon.”35PresidentHinckley’shopewasthat thistourwouldmak eadifferencefortheChurc hinHawaii, NewZealand,andAustralia.Healsoblessedchoirmembers torememberthattheywouldbesinginganthemstoGodand JesusChristandthattheywouldrememberthattheywere“on

theirmission,topromotetheirworkandbuildtheirkingdom intheearth.”36 Musicalmissionaries.SoonafterWendellSmootbecamechoir president,herealizedthattoursneededtoincludemissionar y activities, andheorganizedamissionarycommitteetohelp choirmembersdistributechoirrecordings,Articlesof Faith cards,andcopiesof theBookof Mormon.37Smootalsorec ognizedthatif beingapartof thechoirwasaChurchcalling, everyoneshouldbesetapartforthatcalling.Hefoundthat settingapartthechoirmembershelpedthembecomemore willingtodowhatwasaskedandmorefocused.38 Choirmemberstooktheirresponsibilityof beingm usi calmissionariesseriously.Theypurchasedandgaveawaymore thantwelvehundredcopiesof theBookof Mormon,almost tenthousandArticlesof Faithcards,andmorethanthir teen hundredchoirtapesastheytraveled.39ElderJohnSonnenberg of thePacificAreaPresidencysaidthatthechoirtour“touched theli vesofcommonpeopleanddignitariesthelengthand breadthof theselands.”40ElderF.Ar thurK ay,alsoof the AreaPresidency,remarkedthatthec hoirtourmadeamajor impactintheareaandthathecouldseethatthemembersof thechoirwere“purifiedandsanctifiedthroughordinancesand covenantsandyearsof gospellivinginapurefor mof mis sionaryservice.”41 ElderY oshihiko Kikuchi of theFirstQuorumof the Seventy wasthepresidentof theHa waiiHonoluluMission

Anotheryoungmanwhohad“bitter,negativefeelingstoward theChurch”attendedtheChoirconcertand“wassotouc hed by theirmusicandspiritthathedecidedtoin vestigate,and soonjoinedtheChurch.”43 AnambassadorfortheChur ch.Anotherwaythetourhelped builduptheChurchintheP acificw asinbringingg reater credibilityandgoodwilltotheChurc hwhereitisrelati vely unknown.44Duringmanytours,peoplebecomefriendsofthe choir,andtheybegintolookattheChurchinamorepositi ve light.Forexample ,oneof themusiccriticsfromtheChrist church,NewZealand,Presswrote ,“Inambassadorialter ms forafaith,atopqualitymusicgroupiswellworthitsweightin tithes.Certainly,aswassopowerfullyevidentlastevening,an ensemblesuchastheSaltLak eMormonTabernacleChoiris capableofgeneratinganenormousamountofgoodwill....It willsurelyspringtomindthenexttimeapairofsmartlysuited gentlemenringmydoorbell.”45 Whenever thec hoirisontour,c hoirleadersandlocal Churchleadersmeetwithlocalornationaldignitariesatarecep tioneitherbeforeoraftereachconcert.Thesereceptionsallow individualswhomightnotha vehadanopportunitytomeet withChurchleadersbeforetounderstandmoreaboutwho theyareandwhattheyrepresent.ElderDieterF.Uc htdorf

Evaluation of the Pacifi c Tour Oneaspectof thetourthathasnotbeenexaminedisthe involvement of themediainpublicizingandreviewingthe concerts.Probablybecauseof thesponsorshipof theNew ZealandBroadcastingCorporationandtheAustralianBroad castingCorporation,thechoirrecei vedalarge amountof mediacoverageonthePacifictour.Afterthetour,theChurch’s PublicAffairsDe partmentinSydneysubmittedtheirre port tothec hoirwithasummar yof themediain volvement.The numberswereimpressive.Therewereninetyfournewspaper articlesfeaturingthechoirortheChurchwithacombinedcir culationof almostfourteenmillion.Overeightmillionview erssawtelevisionnewsorprog rams,includingthebroadcasts of MusicandtheSpokenW ord,inNewZealandandA ustralia. Inaddition,numerousonairinterviewsw ereconductedwith choirpersonnelontelevisionorradio,reachinganotherlarg e segmentof thepopulation.47 Althoughdifficulttoquantifyintheag gregate, media reportsshowthatthechoirtourimpactedmissionaryw ork

andenhancedthevisibilityandperceptionoftheChurch.One NewZealanderwhowasamissionaryinAdelaide,A ustralia, wrote, “The Choir’s presenceopenedupmanydoorswhen tractingif onlytotalkaboutthem.T heywereinthepapers , ontheradio,andontelevision.Missionar yworkw ashelped immeasurably.”48Inthehistoricalreportof theNewZealand AucklandMission,PresidentHerschelN.Pedersonwrotethat hecouldnot“judgetheeffectatthistimeotherthanthefact thatmanypeoplesawit.Wewitnesseditourselves.Theywere great,thereceptionwasgreat.Theyhavehadmuchtelevision coverage,radioco verageandithasalreadybeenannounced thattheywillha verebroadcastsof thechoirduringthenext threemonths.”49 Newspaperreviewsw eregenerallypositi ve. Descriptions of theperformancesincludedwordssuchas“strengthsin intonation,diction,ensemblesensitivityand,perhapsmostof all,strengthinnumbersgi ve thec hoiritsdistincti ve sonor ity.”50Onecriticmentionedthat“choralvirtuosityw ouldnot beanexaggerateddescription”whendiscussingtheconcert.51 Mostreviewerscommentedthatdespitethesizeof thechoir, thesoundwastec hnicallycor rect,hadbalancedhar monies, wasdisciplined,andwasunifiedinpitch.52However,notevery

musiccriticappreciatedthemusicalrepertoire,sometimescall ingittooblandorlighthear tedanda“mixedbagwithtoo muchchaff andnotenoughwheat.”53Inspiteof themusical criticism,theaudiencesappreciatedtheconcerts,asmentioned by onecriticinP erth, “Itwasaneveningtosa vorandthe ‘housefull’audiencegavethesingersastandingovation.”54 Inrecallingtheeventsof 1988,KellyHarrisJr.,aChurch memberinNewZealand,saidthatwhilehecouldnotsa ythe tourwasresponsibleforacertainnumberofbaptismsoracti vations,itcertainlyhelpedbringtheChurc houtof obscurity inNewZealand.HestatedthattodayMusicandtheSpokenWord isshownev erySundaymorningonNewZealandtelevision, somethingthatdidnotoccurbeforethetour.Hecontin ued, “Now,whetherornottheseadventshavebeenduetothe1988 tour,we’renotsure.But,whatwearesureofisthattheprofile of theTabernacleChoirhasdefinitelybeenapositi vetothe gatheringof many‘friendsof theChurch.’”55

Conclusion Whenthechoirfi nallyreturnedhometoSaltLakeCity onJuly5,1988,theyw eregreetedattheair portbyPresident Hinckley,whosaid,“Youhavedonetremendousgoodforthe Church,forthestateof Utah,forSaltLakeCity,andforthe nationasyourepresentedtheUnitedStatesatthe200thanni versaryof thefoundingofAustralia....Godblessyouforall thegoody ouhavedone.”56Thistributesumsupaprophet’ s perspectiveonwhethertheChoiraccomplishedthegoalsof
